The Iowa Hawkeyes hit the road for Columbus to battle the Ohio State Buckeyes. Iowa scored a thrilling 76-75 win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Friday night, although it failed to cover. It halted a 3-game losing skid but Iowa is still 0-4 against the spread in its past 4 games. On the road, Iowa has failed to cover in the past 3 times, too, while allowing 94 or more points in each of those games. In fact, defense hasn’t really been a hallmark of this team. It ranks 4th in the nation with 86.8 points per game (ppg) on offense, while hitting 50.5 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from behind the arc. It allows 78.4 ppg and 47.6 percent from the field, both among the worst marks in the nation.

For the Buckeyes, they also snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 73-70 upset win at Purdue last time out. It was a glimpse of what is possible with this team, which has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season. Ohio State has the potential to be very dangerous, but it can also take nights off sometimes, too. The Buckeyes enter just 2-4 ATS, so like the Hawkeyes, they’re very poor against the number lately. That’s why we’ll focus on the total. The Over has cashed in the past 2 games for Ohio State, averaging 74.5 ppg, while allowing 69 or more points in 7 in a row. Iowa is going to want to run and Ohio State will likely be obliged to go along with that. Taking Iowa and the Over might be a nice Same Game Parlay, but the best play looks to be for the total to go high.

No. 2 Duke heads into tonight’s game hoping to put their last game against Wake Forest behind them. Duke found itself trailing by 6 points in the second half against the Demon Deacons but they were able to pull away late in the game to secure a 63-56 victory. If Duke thinks tonight’s matchup against NC State is going to be a walk in the park, they should think again. NC State isn’t a powerhouse team, and I don’t think they’re going to win this game, but the Wolfpack’s defense has been able to keep most of their games within striking distance this season. Duke enters this game as a massive favorite, and rightfully so since they’re one of the best teams in the nation, but I think NC State could keep this game somewhat competitive.

If you look at the Wolfpack’s schedule, their biggest loss this season was by 18 points and that was against Wake Forest. Despite losing by nearly 20 to a mediocre Wake Forest team, NC State only lost to Purdue by 10, UNC by 2, a pesky Virginia team by 3 and Texas by 4. The Wolfpack will likely have their issues scoring against this Blue Devils defense, but I do want to point out they were able to put up 67 against a Virginia team that is ranked 23rd in the NCAA in defense. NC State only has 2 players averaging double digits this season, and because of that I don’t think they’ll put up a ton of points, but their defense should be able to find a way to slow down Cooper Flagg so this game doesn’t get out of hand early on. The Cameron Indoor Stadium is going to be electric as these 2 teams take the court, and even though I expect Duke to rebound nicely from their last outing against Wake Forest, I believe NC State has what it takes to play their conference rival tough and cover this massive spread.

The UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans will face off on Monday night in Los Angeles for a Big Ten Conference showdown. This is a road game for UCLA, but they do not have to drive very far to get to Galen Center. This rivalry game between 2 LA schools should be a good one as the spread is currently set at just 1 point. UCLA is a slight road favorite in this one, but we like USC to win the game on their home floor. The Trojans have 7 losses on the year but have played much better basketball in conference play. They have won 3 of their last 4 games and are 4-4 in league play. Overall, we like USC to pull off the home win. The Trojans have looked excellent lately and a big part of that is down to leading scorer Desmond Claude. Claude had 31 points in their upset road win at Illinois and is averaging 16.3 points per game on the season.

UCLA looks to be on their way to the NCAA Tournament, but their offense has been bad on the road. Their offensive struggles away from home is what we expect to hold them back from winning this game. They are averaging just 65 points per game (ppg) on the road this season and we do not see them being good enough to outscore USC. According to KenPom, USC’s offense is ranked 5th in adjusted efficiency and 6th in three-point percentage in Big Ten league play. UCLA’s offense is ranked just 13th in the conference while USC’s defense is ranked 5th in three-point percentage, so UCLA may struggle to shoot the ball effectively.
