We have 2 very different games this Wednesday night in the NBA. The Celtics head back home in Game 5 to likely close out the series against Miami, with 2 starters missing in Kristaps Porzingis for Boston and Jaime Jacquez for the Heat. The Mavericks go back to Los Angeles, where Kawhi Leonard will be out, although the Clippers are 2-0 with him sitting this series (scratches head). Kristaps and Jacquez are both out tonight so I ran the numbers this series with both players off the floor: Derrick White and Jaylen Brown are the biggest scoring beneficiaries of this scenario. However, Tatum leads the team with 8 assists in those possessions. 87% of those assists are coming from three-point shots, which Miami is famous for allowing given their preference for zone defense. Tatum has the highest rebounding rate for the Celtics on a per-possession basis in the same scenario, just narrowingly edging out Al Horford. He’s hit this line in 3-of-4 games this series and although this could be a blowout, the Celtics will take no chances with Miami and close out the game in Boston. He should be in line for 40+ minutes tonight. 1u.
