The Atlanta Hawks will be visiting the Orlando Magic in the opening game of the NBA play-in tournament, their fifth meeting of the season. Each of the encounters were relatively high scoring, surpassing the 217-point mark at which this line is set. We should see that trend continuing on Tuesday. The teams do not match up well against the opponents’ best scorers. The Hawks simply do not have a forward who possesses the speed and physicality of Paolo Banchero, especially since Jalen Johnson went down injured. It is no surprise that Banchero has averaged more than 33 points per game against them. For all his defensive ability, Dyson Daniels cannot cope with his physicality. Similarly, Cole Anthony is not a lockdown defender that can impact Trae Young, whose points per game jump from 24.2 in the regular season to 28.3 against the Magic. Look for the stars to be leading their respective offenses.

Over the last 10 games the Hawks have ranked sixth in offensive rating and just 20th in defensive rating. They are fifth in pace and should be setting the tempo in this matchup. Atlanta leads the league in fast-break points per game during that time, too, so look for them to focus on getting out in transition. The visitors can be turnover prone, however, and are also 21st in opponents’ points off turnovers. That should create opportunities for Orlando to get out and match them on fast breaks. Look for this matchup to follow the trend of recent games between these sides and push closer to the 220-point mark.
