Good morning, Pickswise Nation. We are in between rounds of the World Cup and neither Week 14 in the NFL nor college football bowl season has gotten underway. The good news is that the NBA, NHL and college basketball are helping to pick up the slack. It’s another big day in the world of sports, so let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Portugal advances at World Cup, Spain ousted by Morocco
There was only 1 upset in the World Cup round of 16, and it came on Tuesday. Following a scoreless regulation period, Morocco knocked off Spain in penalty kicks. The underdogs’ reward is a date with Portugal in the quarterfinals after they took care of Switzerland 6-1.

Did Duke win? Yes!
Madison Square Garden is Duke’s home away from home and the Blue Devils prevailed there yet again, beating Iowa 74-62. Meanwhile, #17 Illinois handed #2 Texas its first loss of the season via an 85-78 overtime decision.

Crosby shoots for 2
One of our best player prop bets in the NHL on Tuesday was Sidney Crosby over 1.5 points. Well, Crosby went over 1.5 goals. Pittsburgh’s superstar scored twice during a 4-1 win over Columbus. Elsewhere on the ice, Mitch Marner extended his franchise-record point streak to 20 games as Toronto blanked Dallas 4-0.

116 the magic number in NBA
There were 3 NBA games and all 3 winning teams scored exactly 116 points. Cleveland beat the Lakers 116-102, Detroit defeated Miami 116-96 and Dallas held off Denver 116-115.

Seven NHL games, including 2 on TNT
A 7-game NHL schedule gets underway with the Blue Jackets hosting the Sabres at 7:30 pm ET. Wednesday’s doubleheader on TNT concludes with the Rangers visiting the Golden Knights. The Capitals, Bruins and Avalanche are also taking the ice. You can find our hockey coverage on the NHL page.

Michigan State looks to end skid
Head coach Tom Izzo’s Michigan State team has lost 2 games in a row and will try to get back on track when it visits Penn State on Wednesday. Another Big Ten battle features Indiana and Nebraska. Check out all of our college basketball predictions.

Best Bet of the Day

NHL: Buffalo Sabres vs Columbus Blue Jackets Over 6.5 (-110)
7:30 pm ET, TNT

The Sabres are scoring 3.8 goals per game — the 3rd-most in the NHL. Only the Bruins and Stars are ahead of them. However, Buffalo is also allowing 3.68 goals per game — the 5th most in the league. As if that isn’t enough, the Sabres’ 4.15 goals allowed per game over the last month are the absolute most. The Blue Jackets have been just as terrible. They are sitting in last place in the Metro Division due to their poor goaltending. Columbus is allowing 3.96 goals per game — the 2nd-most in the NHL behind only the league-worst Ducks. They are also allowing the most goals per game on home ice. Three meetings between these teams last season ended with totals of 11, 7 and 10 goals. Here are our full Sabres vs Blue Jackets predictions.
