After last night’s jam-packed 8-game NHL slate and a Monday that featured nationally televised afternoon games, tonight features a lighter 5-game slate on the ice. Still, we have some great matchups, such as a potential Stanley Cup Final preview between the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. However, when it comes to our best NHL prop bet picks for today, we’re targeting two skaters outside of that matchup, so let’s get into it. Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Jeff Skinner over 0.5 points (-105)
Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to -125.
We’re targeting 2 Atlantic Division skaters with our NHL prop bet picks, the first of which is on the Buffalo Sabres. They’re up in Montreal taking on the Canadiens tonight, which is a prime matchup for them to bounce back. Buffalo just suffered a rough home loss to the Anaheim Ducks, so they certainly need it. We’re focused on the experienced leader of the team — Jeff Skinner. Like the team, he too needs to end a cold streak, and the Habs present a great matchup.
Montreal is allowing the 5th-most goals per game this year, and we just need Skinner to be a part of one in any fashion. Tage Thompson is a great skater to find the back of the net, and he is alongside Skinner on the top line. Of course, Alex Tuch is a great linemate as well, and all 3 are on the first powerplay unit. The Canadiens have also committed the 6th-most penalties per game, so we could see that unit on the ice quite a bit. Along with their overall poor goaltending, there’s no reason not to expect Skinner to record a point, so that’s how we’re getting our NHL prop bet picks for today started.
John Tavares over 0.5 points (-135)
Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to -150.
Another seasoned veteran is Toronto Maple Leafs captain, John Tavares. That’s right, Auston Matthews is not the captain, despite being arguably the best goalscorer in the NHL. Of course, that certainly plays a part in Tavares having success tonight. Skating alongside an elite goalscorer like Matthews means plenty of chances to record a point, and that’s all we need from Tavares.
He and the Leafs are facing Matthews’ hometown team — the Arizona Coyotes. Despite being one of the worst teams in the NHL the past few seasons, they have now upset Toronto in 4 straight meetings! Although those came over 2 calendar years ago at this point, it’s time for the Leafs to make a statement. This is the year where they are out to prove they can get over the playoff hump, and Matthews being on pace for over 70 goals certainly helps with that. Whether he links up with the Arizona native, William Nylander or otherwise, we’re eyeing John Tavares to record a point of any kind to round out our NHL prop bet picks for today.
