The Leafs won the first 5-2 and have been playing much better hockey recently, to the point where they look like an entirely different team. They are 4-0-1 in their last 5 games. Captain Auston Matthews has found his game; he has 7 goals in that same 5-game stretch. Matthews is enjoying some new-found chemistry with winger Bobby McMann, while and Toronto’s third line consisting of Nicolas Roy, Nicholas Robertson and Easton Cowan has been solid. Those guys are chipping in offensively. Netminder Joseph Woll is 4-1 in his last 5 start; he has been holding it down back there. The Leafs’ powerplay that was struggling mightily up until the holiday break is now one of the hottest in the league.

Going up against the Flyers will be no easy game, as head coach Rick Tocchet has them playing a very solid, defensive-minded style. However, the Maple Leafs are on a roll right now — so I am riding with them on Thursday. Give me the Leafs on the money line.

The Washington Capitals will face the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night. The Stars come into this game riding a 6-game losing streak following a loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. The Capitals were sitting idle on Tuesday and they will be well rested and ready to pounce on the Stars. The Stars are struggling right now; the main issue is their defensive play. Heading into action on Tuesday, Dallas was the fifth-best defensive team in the league by averaging 2.71 goals against per game. It has been a different story as of late, as the Stars have allowed 4 or more goals in every game during this skid. They will be facing a good offensive team in the Caps, who average 3.30 goals per game.

The Capitals are a very good home team. They boast a 13-7-3 record at the Capital One Arena. The home side will have superstar netminder in goal in Logan Thompson. On the season, he has a 2.37 GAA and .915 SVP. This will be a tough test for the Capitals against a very good Dallas team, but they can get it done. Give me the Caps in this one.

The Calgary Flames are heading to Montreal to face the Canadiens in an all-Canadian matchup. The 2 teams are heading in very different directions; the Canadiens are not only competing for a playoff spot but also aiming for the top position in the Atlantic Division, while the Flames are closer to winning the draft lottery.

Montreal has struggled to win at home, but the Flames have been particularly poor on the road — especially with Dustin Wolf in goal. The young goalie has impressive numbers at home, so it’s puzzling why his performance deteriorates away from the Saddledome. With a 3.97 GAA and .865 SV%, his stats are concerning for both him and the team. Although the Canadiens don’t take many shots, with numbers like that they don’t need many quality chances to score. Jacob Fowler will be in the net for Montreal, and his overall stats have been solid. He gives his team a chance to win when he starts, which is to be expected tonight. The Flames have lost 2 straight games and are hoping to break that losing streak, but it seems unlikely to happen tonight in La Belle Province.

On the season, the Mammoth rank 19th in the NHL in scoring at 3.02 goals per game, and the powerplay has been wildly ineffective. More specifically, Utah ranks 28th in the NHL with a powerplay that is converting at a measly 16.0%. Returning from a 3-game East Coast road trip, it may take some time for the Mammoth to get their legs underneath them. Consider the under.

The St. Louis Blues will face the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. The Blues are currently sitting 12th in the Western Conference, while the Blackhawks rank 13th. St. Louis is rocking a 2-game winning streak. The issue for the Blues is that they have struggled to score. Over the past 5 games, they have only scored a total of 12 goals. Making matters worse, STL has been held to 2 or fewer goals in 7 of the last 10 away games. This has been a major issue for the Blues, as they rank last in the NHL with 107 total goals this season. This difficulty scoring is a good sign for the Blackhawks.

Taking a look at the Blackhawks, they are sporting a 3-game winning streak. They also won their previous home start against the Vegas Golden Knights, which could be a major confidence booster for them. Chicago has not been great at scoring this season, either, but it has lit the lamp 3 times or more in 5 of its last 6 outings. On the opposite end of the ice, the Blackhawks boast an 89.5% save percentage this season while having an 83.8% penalty-kill percentage. The defensive play has shown itself in their current 3-game winning streak and should play a role in today’s game. Overall, I suspect the Blues will continue to struggle offensively while the Blackhawks find the back of the net with their momentum.

The Kings won 4-3 at SAP Center as moderate favorites (-220) on Oct. 28 as the Over (5.5) cashed. The Sharks posted a 4-3 win in a shootout as moderate underdogs (+140) as the Over (5.5) also hit. San Jose has won 3 of the past 5 H2H since October of 2024, and the Sharks are 7-1 in the past 8 games in this series as underdogs on the puck line. In other words, the Sharks have been a major thorn in the side of the Kings despite a disparity in records in recent years.

The Kings are coming off a back-to-back sweep against the Minnesota Wild, although they are still just 3-4-0 in the past 7 games and 4-6-2 across the previous 12 outings. The Over has cashed in 5 in a row for the Sharks, too, just in case you’re looking for a Same Game Parlay. The Kings have allowed 3 or more goals in 3 of the past 4 games and in 5 of the past 7, as the defense and goaltending has been suspect.
