Tonight features just 3 games on the ice, but the NHL is just getting us prepared for a huge weekend. We’re also here to help you do so. With such a light slate of action, it can be difficult to find puck lines, money lines or over-unders that you love. That’s why we’ve got you covered with other markets, as we’ve provided our experts’ best NHL prop bet picks. Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.
Jack Hughes (NJ) over 3.5 shots on goal (-155)
Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to -165.
We’re not going to make you wait when it comes to our NHL prop bet picks, as we’re getting things started with one of the early puck-drops. It takes place in New Jersey with the Devils looking to take advantage of a struggling Chicago Blackhawks squad. Their matchups usually mean fans targeting rookie sensation Connor Bedard, but we’re going with a different youngster.
That would be Jack Hughes, and the whole trio of brothers is slowly taking over the league. When it comes to the prop markets, the ways to attack Hughes are virtually endless, but we’re going to be keying in on his shots on goal prop. The Blackhawks allow the 4th-most shots per game, and after seeing Hughes shoot 336 times last season (5th-most in the NHL) while missing a few games, we’re confident in backing him to take advantage of that weakness. He leads the Devils with 136 shots so far this year, and the last time they were at home, he had 8 shots on goal. Therefore, we’re starting our NHL prop bet picks with Jack Hughes to have another handful of shots on goal.
Nikolaj Ehlers (WIN) over 3.5 shots on goal (+120)
Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to +100.
We do have to wait until the nightcap for our second play, but it should be worth the wait. It takes place out in Anaheim, and after an overachieving start to the season, the Ducks have reverted back to the mean of a struggling franchise. As they descend the ranks of the Pacific Division, it’s their defense that has been letting them down. It’s not quite as poor as last season, but they’re allowing the 6th-most shots per game.
With them hosting the Winnipeg Jets, that would usually mean a play on Kyle Connor. However, his knee injury means that the volume shooting is now reliant on Nikolaj Ehlers. He’s no stranger to that role, as he’s had multiple 200+ shot seasons in his career. The lefty also tends to get more shots on net with that southpaw approach, and the Ducks are a perfect matchup. He’s also had 23 shots in his past 5 games against Anaheim, and that’s with Connor on the ice. We’ve seen him record 4 or more shots on goal in 5 of the Jets’ last 6 games, so Nikolaj Ehlers shots on goal is the second of our NHL prop bet picks.
