Best bet for the Super Bowl: Kansas City Chiefs -1.5 over Philadelphia Eagles (-112)
Patrick Mahomes.
That’s it. That’s the analysis.
I’m being serious. What else do you need? Why would you bet against Mahomes in the playoffs – and especially in the Super Bowl? Yes, he has lost once in the Super Bowl – but that was to the only other player who is still ahead of him in the GOAT discussion, Tom Brady. Against everyone else, Mahomes is 3-0 when the Lombardi Trophy is on the line.
If you are in the business of extra analysis, however, there are other reasons to like Kansas City. This may be the best defense that has supported Mahomes throughout his illustrious career. It’s a unit that bent at times against the high-powered Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship, but it held strong when it mattered most as DC Steve Spagnuolo once again dialed up some genius calls down the stretch. Jalen Hurts has more weapons around him than Josh Allen, but Chris Jones and the Chiefs’ defense should at least be able to somewhat contain the Eagles’ offense. Kansas City is stellar against the run (8th overall, 7th in yards per attempt) and Philly’s strength is obviously the Saquon Barkley-led ground attack.
Playoffs included, KC has won an unbelievable 17 consecutive 1-possession games. It’s hard to see the Eagles winning big, and if they don’t win big they probably won’t win at all.
