In honor of Massachusetts legalized sports betting this week, I wanted to focus on the first “legal” Boston Celtics game this season. Boston is traveling to Atlanta taking on the Hawks, who are on the tail end of a back-to-back. The Celtics took the first matchup back in November, 126-101 and have no meant since. The Hawks are 3-3 under new head coach Quin Snyder and tied together back-to-back wins for the first time under his tutelage. Boston is a -4.5 favorite on the road.

Jaylen Brown Over 25.5 points (-105)

Line available at BetMGM Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Brown has hit this line in 7 of the last 10 games and was the high scorer for Boston in the solo matchup this season (22). Unfortunately, that game was a complete blowout and Brown had 4 fouls that limited him to only 23 minutes. However, 22 points in 23 minutes of play is extremely impressive. The Hawks give up the worst FG% in the mid range (8 to 16 feet) of the entire NBA over the last 10 and that is Brown’s sweet spot on the floor. Brown is hitting this line at 60% clip this season, so I expect him to continue to roll through Atlanta on a back-to-back. 1.5U.

John Collins Under 15.5 points + rebounds (-111)

Line available at FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

Poor John Collins. He survives another trade deadline only to fall out of favor with the new coach brought in. Collins is averaging 13.9 P+R over the last 10 and 12.5 P+R under Snyder. He’s been below 28 min in 5 of those 6 games. He’s the odd man out in what Snyder is looking to do for this Hawks offense that relies heavily in initiating the offense around a high pick-and-roll with Capela. The Celtics won’t make anything easier for him offensively with Grant Williams and Jayson Tatum capable of matching up with Collins anywhere on the floor. He went under this line against Boston back in November despite playing 32minutes and I don’t think he sniffs that today. 0.5U.
