I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After cashing our NHL mega parlay on New Year’s Day, the Winter Classic let us down on Monday. However, now we have 11 games to choose from on Tuesday’s slate. There are some heavy favorites on the board, but I have found much better value on the ice. I have some variety for you with a road underdog, home favorite and road puck line. With so much to cover, let’s get into it.

Along with our NHL mega parlay, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Buffalo Sabres ML (+136) over Washington Capitals

Let’s get things started with what should be a great Eastern Conference clash in the nation’s capital. The Sabres may not be the most complete team, but they have the firepower to pull off some upsets. Led by Tage Thompson, they are the highest-scoring team in the NHL, especially as of late. Buffalo is scoring nearly 4.5 goals per over the last month, and the Caps’ calling card has largely been their defense.

However, Buffalo is one of the few teams that has the ability to penetrate it. It should also help Thompson and company that Caps defender John Carlson will not be on the ice tonight. Buffalo’s recent loss may cause hesitation given it was a very rare case of them scoring just 1 goal. It’s important to note that it was the 2nd night of a back-to-back in which they had to travel up to Ottawa to take on the Senators. Ironically enough, that same Sens team recently took down the Caps. This play will likely be the biggest sweat of the 3, but there’s significant value with the Sabres in this spot.

Nashville Predators ML (-205) over Montreal Canadiens

It may seem surprising to see such a heavy favorite incorporated into our NHL mega parlay. However, our other 2 legs allow us to play it a bit safe with this one. Regardless, the Preds should be able to pull off a multi-goal win on home ice if you’d like a single play on that market. The Canadiens have looked nothing short of awful recently. The last time they were on the ice was against the Caps team we just discussed and were completely wiped out by a final of 9-2. Alex Ovechkin recorded yet another hat trick in that game, and anyone’s been able to score on Montreal as of late.

Prior to that loss was a beatdown by the Florida Panthers 7-2, and before that was a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. In fact, the last time the Canadiens didn’t lose a game by multiple goals was December 21. Their recent skid has them at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Preds recently faced another weak team like Montreal in the Anaheim Ducks. That was a road game and they still took care of business with a 6-1 win. Again, this is just a money line play, which should have no problem cashing with this one in Nashville.

Dallas Stars -1.5 (+205) over Los Angeles Kings

Wrapping things up is our biggest plus-money play. Teams heading out to the west coast can sometimes cause some concern for backing them, but that shouldn’t be the case here. Firstly, the Stars have been atop the Central Division throughout the season with an impressive 23-9-6 record. They also just handled a different California team in their last game, smashing the San Jose Sharks 5-2. The Kings may have a better record than the Sharks, but their goaltending is nearly just as bad.

While San Jose allows the 6th-most goals per game, the Kings have allowed the 9th-most. With a Stars team that scores the 3rd-most goals per game while allowing the 5th-fewest, they have every bit of the talent to win this game by multiple goals. That’s also exactly what they did in their first meeting with the Kings this season. That, too, was a dominant 5-2 win. Although that was in Dallas, the Stars have looked too crisp to doubt just for being outside of the Lonestar State. With the NHL’s 3rd-most points on the road, the Stars can indeed shine bright even out in LA.
