Bad news: only 3 games remain in the 2024 NFL season. Good news: they should be really good ones. We have a couple of mouth-watering matchups in store for Conference Championship weekend, even if the NFC festivities are somewhat unexpected. The top-seeded Detroit Lions are out; what’s left is an all-NFC East showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. In the AFC, an ongoing rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills adds another chapter.

Best bet for the Conference Championships: Washington Commanders +5.5 over Philadelphia Eagles (-112)
I’m 2-0 with my early best bets through the first 2 weeks of the playoffs, including on the Commanders when they were the only road team to win on Super Wild Card Weekend. I’m going right back to the well for the NFC Championship, in which the visitors are getting more than a field goal.
For a number of reasons, I think that’s too much. Sure, any decent team can get hot and pull off a big playoff road victory from seemingly out of nowhere. But beating up on the Lions and doing so in the fashion that Jayden Daniels and company did it is no ordinary upset. And when it comes on the heels of a win at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you know this team is no fluke. You also know it has no qualms about going into hostile environments. As for the Eagles, they just barely survived a 4th-quarter collapse to hold off the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Jalen Hurts got banged up and Quinyon Mitchell left the game with a shoulder injury. That’s certainly not ideal heading into the conference title game.
I expect the Commanders to keep it close and I wouldn’t even be surprised at all to see them win outright.
