NBA Tuesday parlay at mega (+1212) odds, today 1/31: Don't doubt Denver

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (27) controls the ball against Philadelphia 76ers guard De'Anthony Melton (8) in the first quarter at Wells Fargo Center.

Action in the association continues on Tuesday night as 10 teams take the court. There are some exciting matchups like the Los Angeles Lakers against the New York Knicks, but also some lopsided matchups like the Charlotte Hornets facing the Milwaukee Bucks. I’ve created a 3-team mega parlay that pays out at over 12/1 odds, so let’s get right into it!

Cavaliers -5 (-110)

Clippers win by 11+ (+260)

Nuggets -7.5 (-110)

Parlay odds: +1212

Cleveland Cavaliers -5 over Miami Heat (-110)

While the Heat are coming off a loss to the not-so-mighty Hornets, the Cavaliers just dismantled one of the best defenses in the association. Miami entered as 6-point favorites but ended up losing by 5 in a game they wished they had back. As for Cleveland, they made 20 three-pointers en route to a 23-point win over the Clippers, who hold the 10th-best defensive rating in basketball. And it will be on the defensive side of the ball that Cleveland should showcase their dominance over the Heat.

Cleveland is allowing just 102.6 points per game in their last 5 games and has the height to limit Bam Adebayo’s presence in the paint. Jarrett Allen has been an elite rim protector while Evan Mobley has also proven to be very useful in the paint. The Cavaliers might not win by 22 points again, but they are more than capable of covering a 5-point spread against the 25th-ranked offense in January.

Los Angeles Clippers win by 11+ (+260) over Chicago Bulls

This line appears to believe that Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are still questionable for Tuesday, but several reports indicate that neither star will miss this game. George and Leonard both sat out of Sunday’s back-to-back after they each logged nearly 40 minutes on Saturday, so there’s no reason for either to miss Tuesday’s game. I expected this line to be closer to 7 points, but at just 3 points, this winning margin has a lot of value.

A big reason why I see the Bulls struggling on Tuesday is that they have been in an easy stretch in their schedule and will now be tested against a solid team. In the last two weeks, Chicago has faced the Magic, Hornets, Pacers, Hawks and Pistons. Four of those five teams sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, while the Hawks are still fighting for a winning record. If George and Leonard were not available for this game, this line would make sense. But if only Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson are out, Los Angeles should easily cover their short spread and more as they look to win their 6th game in their last 7 tries.

Denver Nuggets -7.5 (-110) over New Orleans Pelicans

The Nuggets are on a losing streak for just the 3rd time this season. That speaks volumes as to how well Nikola Jokic and company have bounced back from a loss. But Denver’s last 2 losses have been understandable, as the 76ers shot the lights out last game, and the Nuggets were without Jokic and Jamal Murray in the game prior. Fortunately for Denver, both starters are back in the lineup, and they welcome a struggling Pelicans team to Ball Arena on Tuesday night. New Orleans has lost 8 straight games, and the return of Brandon Ingram has not given the boost to the starting lineup that the Pelicans were hoping for.

Ingram has shot 29.3% from the field and turned the ball over 10 times in his 2 games back, so it seems clear that missing two months has taken a toll on him. He returns to a faltering New Orleans offense that ranks 30th in offense, 29th in EFG% and 29th in true shooting percentage during their 8-game losing streak. Denver should extend the Pelicans’ woes.
