Atlanta Hawks ML (+215) over Boston Celtics
The Celtics are massive favorites to win the series opener, but I wouldn’t disregard the Hawks’ chances. Sure, they’ve won just 4 times in 9 road games, but with an impressive win over Miami in the play-in game they are here as the 7th seed. Having played on Tuesday they won’t have to worry about rust in between games, while Boston hasn’t played in over week after resting starters on the final day of the regular season. Another thing that could bother Boston is the status of Jaylen Brown, who had a cut on his shooting hand which required stiches, so it might take a game or two for him to get comfortable after that. All 3 regular-season meetings went Boston’s way, but Trae Young has averaged 31 points and 11 assists in 2 games against them, and whenever you have a star player putting up those type of numbers you’re never really out of a game. It all depends how the first quarter or two plays out, but if the Hawks are able to weather the storm early they are very much in it to pull off the upset.

Cleveland Cavaliers -5 (-106) over NY Knicks
The biggest question surrounding the Knicks ahead of Game 1 against Cleveland is the status of star player Julius Randle. He hasn’t played since injuring his ankle in late March, and the Knicks went 3-2 SU without him. That includes a 130-116 win over Cleveland behind Jalen Brunson’s 48 points 2 weeks ago, but with this being the postseason it’s going to be much tougher to pull off that type of performance. The Cavs finished with one of the best home records in the regular season, winning 31 of 41 games and making the postseason for the first time since LeBron James left. Donovan Mitchell is the new hero in town, and he finished the season averaging 28.3 points per game and is a candidate for one of the All-NBA teams. The Knicks did win 3 of the 4 regular season meetings, but with 12 wins in their last 17 regular-season games and a 11-5 SU record in their last 16 against East teams, Cleveland heads into this one with high hopes. They’ve been hard to beat at home and finished with a 23-16-2 ATS record in their building. I have them covering the spread in Game 1.

Sacramento Kings ML (-112) over Golden State Warriors
To wrap up the first day of the postseason, I have the Sacramento Kings beating the Golden State Warriors. Led by De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, Sacramento led the league in offensive rating and was 2nd in assist-to-turnover ratio, which played a huge part in them grabbing the #3 seed and ending their 17-year long playoff drought. There are several questions surrounding the Warriors and their ability to play on the road. For whatever reason, Golden State has been horrendous away from home and is 11-30 SU and 12-29 ATS on the road. The Kings’ only win over the Warriors during the regular season was at home and their last loss came just last week when Sacramento rested all its starters for the playoffs. The Warriors have also cleared Andrew Wiggins for this game, but it’s yet to be known just how they’re going to work him back into the lineup. I’ll fade the Warriors on the road, where they’ve struggled all year.
