Cleveland Cavaliers 1-10 win margin over New York Knicks (+170)

I wouldn’t say it’s panic time in Cleveland, but it sure is close to that after they lost Game 1 on Saturday. Going 2-0 down with the next 2 games being at Madison Square Garden would be devastating, so I’m counting on the Cavs to show up tonight. It was all about effort in the series opener as the Knicks dominated the boards 51 to 38, something very similar to what Atlanta did to Miami in their play-in game a week ago. Donovan Mitchell did his part with 38 points, but he will need others like Garland, Mobley and Allen to step up.

Cleveland finished the regular season 31-10 SU at home, one of the best marks in the East. If they are able to control the pace, get better production from their bench and improve their rebounding in this game, they should be alright. I still expect the Knicks to keep it close, but ultimately Cleveland should have the edge with Mitchell being the best player on the floor.

Darius Garland 2+ made threes (-280)

Garland got only 13 shots in 43 minutes on the floor in Game 1, and although he finished the game with a modest 17 points, he was still able to clear this line for the 3rd time in his last 4 games. In fact, he is currently on a run of 10 straight games with at least 1 three scored. His percentage isn’t the best at 30.4% during that stretch, but he’s the 2nd scoring option on the Cavs and is expected to put up numbers as Mitchell won’t be able to carry the offense all by himself.

Garland has had the Knicks’ number in his entire career. In 12 regular season games against them, he’s averaging 2.6 threes per game while clearing this line 9 times on 43.1% shooting. With the Knicks allowing 41.9% of threes in their last 3 games and a couple of adjustments by head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, I’m expecting Garland to play a big part as the Cavs even things up.

Jarrett Allen to record 10+ rebounds (-175)

Together with Evan Mobley, Allen was the only Cavalier to record more than 5 rebounds in the series opener as he finished with a team-high 14. In total, 11 of those came at the defensive end, but it still wasn’t enough as the Cavs lost the rebounding battle by 13. That’s one of the biggest things ahead of Game 2 — if Cleveland is able to control the glass they’ll be in a much better position.

Allen has been consistent for the Cavs during the regular season, as he finished it by recording at least 10 rebounds in 5 of his last 8 games. Against the Knicks, he’s on a streak of 4 games in a row with double-digit rebounds, recording 14, 12, 13 and 17. We’re getting really solid odds for a bet that lands on most nights here.
