Golden State Warriors -5 (-106)

The defending champs booked their place in the next round first and foremost because of Stephen Curry, who broke the all-time NBA record for points scored in a Game 7, dropping a cool 50 on the Kings on Sunday. With the trio of Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole combining to shoot 12-for-44 from the field, Curry had no other choice but to do it all by himself. Kevon Looney was the unsung hero as he had 11 points and dominated the boards, collecting 21 rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive end. The Warriors should have the momentum and they are playing at home. At Chase Center they have won 14 of their previous 16 games overall and 15 of their last 20 against the Lakers. I find it hard to believe Wiggins and Thompson can have back-to-back poor performances in the postseason. At 33-8 SU the Warriors were one of the best home teams in the NBA, so I don’t expect any slip-ups in the first 2 games. I’ll take Golden State to cover.

Jordan Poole to score 15+ points (+170)

One of the players who disappointed the most in that opening round against the Kings was Jordan Poole. For a player who signed a 4-year $128 million dollar contract before the season started, you’d expect more than just 12 points per game on 33% shooting from the field and 25% from three. Because of his low production against Sacramento, we’re now getting a tasty +170 odds for him to score 15 points in Game 1 against the Lakers. Despite those numbers, he was able to score 15 in 3 of the 7 games against the Kings. In head-to-head meetings against the Lakers he has cleared the 15-point line in 5 of the last 7 games, and he averaged 16.8 points per game in the 4 regular-season meetings this year. His percentages in those games won’t blow you away, but he did have 29 points in the last game against them at Chase Center. With the Lakers focusing on how to contain Curry, Thompson and Wiggins, I think Poole will be able to go under the radar a bit, and getting 15 points from him would be a massive confidence-booster to open the series.

Austin Reaves to score under 15.5 points (+100)

As good as Austin Reaves was in the series against the Grizzlies, I think asking him to get 16 points in Game 1 against Golden State is a tad too much. Unlike against Memphis, in this series he could have issues dealing with the length of Wiggins and Thompson. Going up against Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks is a little easier than facing the two experienced Warriors wings. During the regular season Reaves played in all 4 games against the Warriors, averaging just 11 points per game and scoring only 3 and 8 points in the visits to Chase Center. Experience could also play a major factor as this is the first playoff run of his career and the lights are slightly brighter in this series than the one against Memphis. I think the Lakers will rely a little more on LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Game 1, so let’s play the under on Reaves.
