LA Lakers ML (-230)

It’s the moment of truth for the Lakers in Game 3 as they look to pull one back against Denver. Games 1 and 2 were both close, but masterful performances by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray were just too much for LA. When trailing 2-0 in Conference Finals series, NBA teams are 6-56 all-time. With 2 of those 6 series wins featuring LeBron James-led teams in 2007 and 2018, I think it gives the Lakers enough confidence that they can turn things around. LeBron needs to be more aggressive and attack the inside as his 3-ball is not falling, not only this playoff series, but throughout the postseason. In Game 2, although he shot close to 50%, he missed all 6 of his shots from deep. Anthony Davis went 4-for-15 from the floor and scored only 18 points. AD had played much better in Game 1 and if we are able to get a repeat of Game 1’s performance tonight, the Lakers should be capable of winning this game and covering the spread. I’ll take the purple and gold on the money line.

Dennis Schroder to score 10+ points (+170)

D’Angelo Russell has been a disaster in this series and it’s time for the Lakers to move on from him. Game 3 is pivotal. Losing is not an option and I think head coach Darvin Ham is aware of it, so adjustments should be on the way. One of those adjustments will be either starting Schroder over Russell or playing him for extended minutes after he comes off the bench. In the 2 games played in Denver the Lakers were -41 on the +/- when Russell was on the floor in 59 minutes. Without him in 37 minutes they were +30, so it’s pretty clear that this is just a bad matchup for him. Schroder had his moments in the Warriors series, averaging 10.3 points per game while clearing the 10-point line 4 times. During the regular season he averaged 14.5 points per game against Denver and with role players playing a lot better at home than on the road, I expect him to show up as James and Davis cannot do it alone.

LeBron James over 9.5 rebounds (+104)

Has father time finally caught up with LeBron James? That’s what some people are saying after the first 2 games in Denver. James has played the 2nd-most minutes in NBA history and playing at the altitude in Denver certainly didn’t help him. He looked gassed on a few possessions in Game 2, taking unnecessary threes and making mistakes that are uncharacteristic of him. The good news is he still makes an impact in other areas of the game and his rebounding numbers back that up. This series he’s averaging 10.5 boards per game, while during this postseason run he’s at 10.1 per game. I think we’ll see even more defense in Game 3, as that’s the most likely way the Lakers can get a win. With the assumption the role players will play better at home, I think James will focus a bit more on rebounding and getting his teammates involved as opposed to trying to score 30 points.
