Christian Wood’s play has gotten a lot of praise in his first 2 games with the Mavericks, so much so that people are questioning whether or not head coach Jason Kidd should insert him into the starting lineup. He has been a huge lift for the Mavs off the bench against the Suns and Grizzlies, and in just 24.5 minutes per game he is averaging 25 points as well as 10 rebounds. He has been really efficient from the field as well connecting on 55% of his attempts and half of his three-point shots. His consistent attacking of the basket has resulted in 12 free-throw attempts per game as well.
Not having to potentially deal with Zion Williamson would be a huge boost for Wood on offense, as outside of Jonas Valanciunas the Pelicans aren’t that deep when it comes to paint protection. Wood has over 20 points in 3 of his last 6 games against New Orleans as a member of the Houston Rockets, and I believe he is capable of having yet another solid scoring game here.

Luka Doncic to record 10+ assists (+134)
In order for Wood to reach 25 points, Luka Doncic will need to pile up the assists tonight and I firmly believe he is up for the challenge. In 14 career games against the Pels, he is averaging 8.4 dimes per game and in his 3 most recent encounters he’s at 9.6 per game. Dallas is just coming off a monster 41-point win at home against the Memphis Grizzlies, and Luka had 10 dimes in that one to make life really easy for the Mavs. Doncic is smart enough to know a similar effort tonight would lead them to another win.
Doncic posted an impressive stat line in his last game against New Orleans with 49 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists, so it’s pretty obvious the Pelicans don’t have anyone on their roster to match up with him. Opponents are averaging 27 assists per game against the Pels so far this season, which ranks them only 23rd in the NBA. Expect Luka to do some damage here.
