Tonight we will get to see a rematch of a Christmas Day game, as the Dallas Mavericks take on the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks won the previous matchup despite trailing by as many as 14 points. The team exploded in the 3rd quarter for 51 points, which completely changed the game. LeBron James and the Lakers will be looking to stop the same outcome as the battle shifts to the Crypto.com Arena.

Over the last 10 games the Lakers are 4th in the league in pace and just 21st in defensive rating. It is a combination of factors that should help any guard churn out assists. With Luka Doncic 2nd in the league in usage percentage, he should be able to benefit more than most. The last time the sides met on Christmas, Doncic was able to record 9 assists — coming just 1 shy of this line. The Mavericks struggled to make shots until they caught fire in the 3rd quarter. Look for them to put together a more consistent performance tonight. Thomas Bryant remains in the paint for the Lakers, but he offers little in terms of rim protection. Look for Doncic to have success dissecting the Lakers in pick and roll situations throughout the night, helping him rack up assists.

The pace the Lakers set should create additional possessions, and inevitably additional misses from both sides. Doncic will have a great opportunity to chase these down tonight. The Slovenian is averaging 10.9 rebounds over his last 9 games and came 1 short of hitting this line in their last meeting. He has been a triple-double threat lately, too, managing 3 in his last 7 games. It is no secret that this Lakers team lacks snipers on the perimeter, as they rank 29th in the league in 3-pointers made per game. That should allow Doncic the freedom to drop back into the paint and help on the boards. In a nationally televised games against LeBron James, I am expecting Doncic to be chasing a win and a triple-double.
Dennis Schroder Over 1.5 made threes (-128)
Dennis Schroder struggled when the sides met on Christmas Day but has picked up his level of play since then. He has managed to record 14 or more points in each of his 5 games of 2023. The German point guard has been able to achieve this by making 2.8 threes per game during that stretch, on 50% shooting from the arc. With Patrick Beverley questionable to play and Austin Reaves out, Schroder should see minutes in the high-30s tonight. He should also act as one of the main perimeter threats for James to look for on his drives to the rim. With his recent efficiency, I am expecting him to convert a couple of triples.
