Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 over Miami Marlins (+158)
Aaron Civale’s first start with Tampa Bay after being acquired at the trade deadline was a rough one, but since then he has been stellar. The Rays have won each of his past 3 outings and in those 3 he allowed only 5 total runs in 16.0 innings of work. Civale is a big reason why Tampa Bay is keeping pace with a red-hot Baltimore squad and is still within striking distance in the American League East. The Rays have won 6 of their last 7 contests heading into Tuesday’s series opener against the Marlins. Miami is countering with Sandy Alcantara, who has not been the ace he was supposed to be this season. Alcantara is sporting a 4.16 ERA and is saddled with a horrendous 6-11 record. Give me TB to win by multiple runs.

Boston Red Sox ML over Houston Astros (-118)
One team not within striking distance in the AL East is Boston – 13.5 games behind Baltimore. In fact, the Red Sox probably aren’t even destined for a wild-card spot – 5.5 games back from the Rangers and Astros for the final berths. However, one thing this team can do is win on Tuesday. Brayan Bello is taking the mound and he has already reached the 10-win mark in 2023. That includes 5 team victories in his last 6 starts, 7 in his last 9 and 10 in his last 13. He just faced Houston last Thursday and that resulted in the win by the final score of — wait for it — 17-1. This is the exact same pitching matchup from that one, as J.P. France of the Astros allowed a ridiculous 10 runs on 11 hits and 2 walks in just 2.1 innings. I don’t think the Sox will win by 16 again… but I do like their chances of winning.

Chicago Cubs -1.5 over Milwaukee Brewers (+158)
Having lost to Milwaukee on Monday, Chicago is now 5 games back in the National League Central and really has no choice but to win the remaining contests in this series. Good news: Justin Steele is toeing the rubber on Tuesday. He is an awesome 14-3 with a 2.80 ERA this year and the Cubs have won 7 games in a row in which he has started. Going back even further, they are 11-1 in his last 12 appearances. Beating Corbin Burnes isn’t an easy task, but Burnes has become much less reliable than Steele. The right-hander has surrendered at least 5 runs in 2 of his last 3 starts. The Cubs need this one and I forecast them getting it with room to spare.
