Cincinnati Reds ML over Miami Marlins (+120)
If you can get a team well into plus-money odds when it is going up against a starting pitcher making his major-league debut, it’s generally a chance you have to take. Friday’s matchup between Cincinnati and Miami certainly is no exception. The Marlins just called up Eury Perez from Double-A Pensacola on Thursday. Perez is the top prospect in Miami’s organization and among the top in all of Major League Baseball. At 20 years old, he will become the youngest pitcher in franchise history when he toes the rubber on Friday evening. Hopes are obviously quite high for Perez, but going from Double-A to the big leagues is a sizable leap. He now faces a somewhat surprising Reds squad that is 9-6 in its last 15 games and coming off a series win over the Mets. Look for Cincy to keep the momentum going.

Atlanta Braves -1.5 over Toronto Blue Jays (+114)
Given their injury woes in the starting rotation, the Braves pretty much have to win any game started by either Spencer Strider or Charlie Morton if they want to maintain their lead in the National League East. Good news for them: Strider is starting on Friday in Toronto. The right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA and he has recorded 67 strikeouts in 40.0 innings of work. Atlanta is a perfect 7-0 this season when Strider takes the mound. The Blue Jays are countering with fellow righty Chris Bassitt, whose ERA stands at 4.28 to go along with a mediocre 28-to-16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 33.0 innings. Toronto is a dreadful 3-7 in its last 10 contests and another loss is probably incoming.

Chicago Cubs ML over Minnesota Twins (+140)
Drew Smyly is taking the mound for the Cubs. Dating back to his second start of the season, that has been a good thing for the North Siders. Smyly is sporting a 3.05 ERA to go along with his 3-1 record, and if not for a poor first outing those numbers would be even better. The left-hander has made 6 consecutive appearances without allowing more than 2 runs. Sonny Gray is also in fine form for the Twins, but they are just 4-5 in their last 9 games and lost Gray’s most recent start. In what should be a pitchers’ duel, Chicago has great value at bloated +140 odds.
