We’ve got a full 15-game slate in MLB today and I’ve picked out my 3 best bets across today’s baseball schedule. I’m on an 8-3-1 run and looking to add to that by making some more profit. Atlanta Braves -0.5 over Oakland Athletics first 5 innings (-135)

The Atlanta Braves play the second game of their series with the Oakland Athletics after dropping the first one last night. Atlanta will send the National League’s ERA leader in Bryce Elder to the mound. Elder has a 2.01 ERA, second only to Shane McClanahan of Tampa Bay and Sonny Gray of Minnesota. The A’s will start their best pitcher on their staff in JP Sears. Sears has been fantastic at home this year with a 2.86 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. In the month of May, Sears’ WHIP is below one and opposing hitters are batting just .219 against him.
Sears has had the fortune of facing the Mariners twice and the Astros in three of his five starts in May. When he faced the Rangers and Yankees, he failed to get to six innings and gave up at least three runs in each. The Braves are one of the best hitting teams in baseball and they absolutely murder left-handed pitching batting .312 with an OPS of .942. Sears also allows teams to bat over .300 the first time through the order. Atlanta is 3rd in MLB in first 5 runs scored per game and 1st on the road. Take the Braves to cover the run line in the first five innings.

LA Angels vs Chicago White Sox Under 5.5 first 5 innings (-142)

The White Sox and Angels are back at it for Game 2 of their 3-game set. The Angels took the first one last night 7-5. Chicago will send Lucas Giolito to the hill. Giolito has started to turn a corner even though he did have a bad outing on the road last time out. He’s been spectacular at home, posting a 2.27 ERA with opposing hitters batting just .202 against him. He’s also walked just five batters at home compared to 14 on the road in the same 31.2 innings.
The Angels start Tyler Anderson, who is nothing to get excited about despite his 2-0 record. He carries a 4.81 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. He’s been slightly better on the road but is still averaging a walk every other inning and a .276 opponent batting average. The White Sox offense has the worst OBP in all of baseball and they have the fewest walks in baseball. I’m hopeful Anderson can get through the order once without giving up a run. While the Angels are the second-best team in baseball in first 5 runs scored on the road, I trust Giolito will do his best at home to minimize the damage.

New York Yankees vs Seattle Mariners Over 3.5 first 5 innings (-150)

The Yankees and Mariners meet for the middle game of their 3-game set in Seattle. Logan Gilbert will take the ball for the Mariners. Gilbert has been very solid this year with a 3.60 ERA and very tiny 0.92 WHIP. But he’s had a strange split this year. The top 4 batters are batting .309 against him and have hit 5 of the 6 home runs he’s allowed. Batters 5-9 are batting .100 with just 4 extra-base hits. Gilbert has also given up a 1st inning run in 7 of his 10 starts this year.
The Yankees start Nestor Cortes. He hasn’t been so nasty this year. His ERA is over 5 and his WHIP is 1.27. Still, he’s struck out 53 batters in 54.1 innings this year. The Yankees are 6th in MLB in first 5 runs scored on the road this season. Seattle comes in 11th overall in first 5 runs scored. We have a very low game total here and can take advantage of that in the first five innings. If the Yankees get to Gilbert in the first inning, it will be a huge lift to cashing this bet. Both of these bullpens are really good, so if the game doesn’t get over in the first five, it likely won’t go over the full game total either.
