Detroit Pistons

Orlando Magic
Points & Assists O/U Pick
J. Ivey - Over 23.5(-115)DET Pistons @ ORL Magic

The Detroit Pistons will be without the services of Cade Cunningham for today’s game against the Orlando Magic. It should leave Jaden Ivey running the point and increase his usage on offense. The 3rd year guard is already putting up great numbers this season, averaging 18 points and 4.3 assists per game. The Magic have allowed opposing playmakers to record 7 or more assists in 5 of their last 6 games, something Ivey could be set to follow suit in. The Pistons guard is also on pace to have a career year from beyond the arc, making 35.9% of his attempts. With the Magic ranking in the bottom 10 of the league in opponent 3-point percentage this season, Ivey should be set to take advantage. Back him to drive the Pistons offense tonight.

Assists O/U Pick
D. Lillard - Over 7.5(+105)CHA Hornets @ MIL Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks have been able to string 3 great wins together recently, helping them get back to the top 6 in the Eastern Conference. A common theme in these wins has been Damian Lillard’s playmaking. The guard has hit double figure assists in each of the contests, averaging 11 per game during that stretch. With the success the team has been having, I expect him to continue sharing the ball tonight. The Charlotte Hornets should be a favorable opponent in that regard. They rank 23rd in the league in opponent assists per game. They are also lacking size down low, with Miles Bridges, Mark Williams and Nick Richards all set to miss tonight’s game. It should give Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez a major advantage in the paint, and I expect Lillard to be the one supplying the ball to them here.

Houston Rockets
Points O/U Pick
S. Sharpe - Over 15.5(-120)POR Trail Blazers @ HOU Rockets

This will be the second straight meeting between the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers, with the first ending in a blowout 28-point win for the Rockets. It led to reduced minutes across the board, with just 1 player surpassing 30 minutes of playing time. Shaedon Sharpe was no exception, managing just 23 on the night. He was, however, one of their few bright sparks on offense, managing to tie for a game team high of 13 points. In the previous 4 contests before this, he managed at least 32 minutes of playing time, helping him hit the over on this line in each contest. Sharpe is a highflyer and should benefit from attacking the rim here against Alperen Sengun. The Turkish center has not recorded a block in 3 straight games and Sharpe should be able to exploit this and have success in the paint. Expect better scoring numbers from him here in what looks set to be a more competitive game.

What is an NBA Prop Bet

NBA prop bets are wagers on the statistical performance of players and teams rather than a traditional wager such as a team to win, cover, or see the points total go over/under the line. Our expert NBA Predictions and NBA Picks cover those moneyline, points totals and spread bets, but all our NBA props can be found right here.

The most common or popular NBA prop bets will revolve around points, rebounds & assists, but there are countless opportunities to wager on NBA player props and NBA team props for every game.

NBA Player Prop Bets

NBA player prop bets are based on an individual player’s statistical performance during a particular game. Typically this will include one or more of the main player stats categories in points, rebounds, and assists.

Most of these NBA player prop bets are in a Total, or Over/Under, type of wager format such as LeBron James to score over or under 28.5 points in a game.

Most bookmakers will have a selection of player props for each game where you can often wager on points, assists, and rebounds individually with individual lines set for each player and each stat.

You can also wager on a player’s total performance with an over/under line set for a player’s total combined points, assists, and rebounds.

Select sportsbooks in some games will also offer odds on a player to score a double-double or triple-double, though this isn’t as widely available, being typically held for the big names and big games in the NBA.

Our experts analyze all of the player stats, form, trends and matchups to decipher the best spots for our NBA player prop bet plays, and highlight them right here alongside our team prop picks. If you like to parlay your prop bets, our expert handicappers also make comprehensive NBA Parlay Picks.

Like most sports, Basketball player performances are typically judged by statistics. With player stat lines discussed both before and after games by fans and on the major network shows.

Check out the list below for more of the different NBA player prop bet markets you’ll expect to find at your favorite sportsbook. You can also check out our how to bet on basketball guide for more information on NBA prop bets and all the other ways you can bet on the NBA.

  • Steals
  • Points + Assists Combined
  • Points + Rebounds Combined
  • Points + Rebounds + Assists Combined

For example – If you wanted to bet on some Steph Curry player prop bets for an upcoming game, sportsbooks will likely have most of the above markets available. They may set his points line at over/under 29.5 points, his assists at over/under 4.5 and his rebounds at over/under 4.5 too. You can bet any of these markets as straight wagers, and some sportsbooks will allow you to add them to Same Game Parlays with other match props and lines. They will also likely have combined lines, where you can bet over or under the total combined figure of all three metrics.

In the example above you’d expect the line to be around Over/Under 39.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists Combined. Not all sportsbooks offer all of the above markets, and the lines and odds will be different across different online sportsbooks, so be sure to always shop the odds as every point, assist or rebound can count in your favor, or against you. Our guide to the best NBA betting sites has all the sportsbooks with the most competitive NBA odds and overall best NBA betting experience.

NBA Team Prop Bets

NBA team prop bets revolve around a team’s performance but not necessarily on the outcome of the game itself.

The most popular NBA team prop bets revolve around a team’s points, whether it be the first team to score or a race to 30 points, or an over/under line for one team’s points total, you can even get more specific and bet on points in the paint or three-pointers.

Like NBA player props you can also bet on important stats beyond points. A team’s rebounds, assists, fouls, blocks and turnovers are also fair game for a prop bet. All of these statistics can also be bet on for individual halves or quarters, such as a team’s points total in the first half or which team will have the highest scoring quarter.

Team props allow you to focus on the performance of one team rather than both. If you prefer to bet on one team you can focus on them rather than the opposition or the game as a whole.

With so many NBA games played each day, finding the best spots for NBA team props can be tricky, with our experts leaning on hours of research and analysis coupled with years of experience to bring you the best free NBA team prop bets today.

NBA Game Props

Often tied to team prop bets, game props can also be considered its own category of NBA prop bet. Game props are bets on events within the game rather than statistical performance of players or teams.

These are not as universally available across sportsbooks as team and player props but some still offer markets like; if the game will go to overtime, a player to foul out, a team to lead wire-to-wire, and more.

When you can bet on so many events that don’t directly impact the winner of the game, which ones each sportsbook offers can differ so check out the full range of NBA prop bets when considering your next NBA wager.

NBA Prop Bets FAQs

Many games are played every night in the NBA, so player props are released on the day of the game, this is often around 5 to 7 hours before tip-off.

With so many NBA player prop bets to choose from, making a pick can be very difficult. At Pickswise, Our expert handicappers put hours of research into player averages, head-to-head match-ups, recent performances and all the stats you can think of. This is the kind of process needed to make great NBA prop picks, there’s no lucky bets here!

Their decades of experience puts our experts in the best position to make strong NBA player prop picks. Make use of them and bet smarter.

This will of course depend on your personal preferences but there are definitely some things to keep in mind. Points, assists and rebounds are very popular player prop bets as the variance between these stats can be big from game to game for many players.

If there is a favourable match-up you might get good odds on a star player to score way above their average, or if a star player is up against a strong defender you might want to bet on them to rack up a lot of assists rather than points. If both teams are in poor shooting form a player prop rebounds could be the way to go.
