I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After back-to-back 2-0 nights, we’re on a nice little 6-1 run, so let’s start out the new week just as strong. Monday features 8 great matchups on the ice, both overall and for player props. We’ll be targeting one of the first games of the night and a rematch of teams that are already meeting for the 3rd time this season. Before we dive in, we’d like to note that an honorable mention that nearly made our favorite plays is for Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals to record a goal. We’ve also found great value elsewhere, so let’s dive in. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Joe Pavelski over 0.5 assists (+110)

One of the first puck drops of the night is in Columbus with the Dallas Stars taking on the Blue Jackets. We’ve been picking on Columbus recently, and it’s been extremely profitable. There’s no reason to change our process, as they’re still allowing the 2nd-most goals per game this season. They’re also 1 of just 2 teams left in the Eastern Conference with just 10 wins on the season. Furthermore, they’ve allowed at least 4 goals in their last 4 games. That’s something Joe Pavelski and the Stars can easily take advantage of.

Despite a loss, they were able to put up 4 goals on one of the best defensive teams in the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Dallas has also scored the 4th-most goals throughout the entire season, and nearly 3.5 goals per game both on the road and in the last month. Pavelski has been a huge part of that success with his 31 points through 32 games. He skates alongside Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, the only 2 skaters on the Stars with more points. Of his 31 points, 20 have been assists, and we’re anticipating him to send a helper to Robertson tonight. Pavelski also had 2 assists the last time he faced Columbus and should repeat that success tonight.

Roman Josi over 0.5 assists (-105)

Our second play is on another skater to repeat his success against his opponent. Roman Josi and the Nashville Predators have already faced the Edmonton Oilers twice this season, and despite losing both games, that’s not what we’re focused on here. The Preds were still able to find the back of the net, largely due to Josi’s performances. He had 2 assists in each game against them, and Edmonton’s goaltending continues to struggle. They just lost at home to the league-worst Anaheim Ducks by allowing 4 goals.

This is also not a case of using expired statistics from the distant past. Josi just recorded 2 assists against the Oilers as recently as 6 days ago. That too was a game in Nashville, where this game will take place. The Oilers continue to struggle on the road, as they’re allowing the 7th-most goals per game on the road. Josi and the Preds have always been a stronger team in Smashville, and the defenseman is no stranger to multiple assists per night. He’s a former Norris Trophy winner for the NHL’s best d-man, and he hasn’t slowed down one bit. His 25:37 minutes of ice time per game is the 5th-most in the league. He still skates alongside an elite goal-scorer in Filip Forsberg, who would be his prime candidate for an assist against a struggling Oilers squad.
