I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. It’s the penultimate day of the NHL regular season and the final game for most teams. The fact that there are still several things left to be determined in terms of positioning for the playoffs makes things even more exciting. There are teams like the Boston Bruins that are a tier above the rest and a few others locked into their positions, but plenty is still up for grabs. We’ve analyzed tonight’s 15 matchups, keeping in mind where motivation is high, to come up with our favorite spots to target for NHL player prop bets. Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Brayden Point over 0.5 goals (+100)

It may seem strange that we’re targeting a skater on the Tampa Bay Lightning. They’ve been locked into their first-round series with the Toronto Maple Leafs for quite some time; however, Point has 49 goals on the year and will be going for his first career 50-goal season. He nearly reached that milestone on Tuesday night against the Leafs, but his shot hit the crossbar. Now he gets another chance against a team he loves facing.

Point has scored a goal in all 3 games against the Detroit Red Wings this season and in 5 of his last 6 games against them. Detroit is coming off back-to-back losses in which they were outscored 10-2, so they clearly haven’t looked good. It’s also worth noting that Point scored the most goals in the postseason 2 seasons ago with 14 en route to the 2nd of the Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cups. He was nagged with injury last year, and he’s put on an incredible bounce-back season. Head coach Jon Cooper will want the boys to build momentum heading into the playoffs, and Point should help them do just that.

Zach Hyman over 0.5 goals (+130)

Our 2nd play doesn’t feature a skater going for a specific milestone, but Hyman is still having a career year. His 36 goals are already 9 more than he’s ever had in a season and his 83 points are 29 more than he’s ever had. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he skates on the top line with Connor McDavid, either. His historical season has been incredible, and his 88 assists lead the NHL. Therefore, Hyman receives plenty of incredible passes from McDavid to help him find the back of the net. He’s also not shy about taking his chances, as he had 7 shots on goal in the Edmonton Oilers’ most recent game.

We expect him to find the back of the net without needing nearly as many shots tonight against the San Jose Sharks. They’ve been awful this season, allowing the 3rd-most goals per game. They also have nothing to play for, and just allowed 6 goals in their last game. Meanwhile, Hyman and the Oilers can steal away the Pacific Division title with a win and Vegas Golden Knights loss. They just smashed the Sharks 5 days ago in a 6-1 win, with Hyman notching a goal in that game. On top of all that, Hyman leads the league in expected goals with 51, per MoneyPuck. That’s 5 more than the next-closest skater. With a highly motivated Oilers team against a struggling Sharks squad, Hyman should cap off his career year with yet another goal.
