If you thought last night’s 4-game slate had some strong matchups, you’re in for a real treat tonight. The defending champion Avalanche are back in action, there’s a rematch of Tuesday’s Lightning vs Devils, and the Stars vs Oilers features 2 of the Western Conference favorites. So many strong teams in action means plenty of great skaters. For our NHL player props, we’re targeting a skater from one of those matchups we mentioned and another in a rather large mismatch. Sam Bennett over 0.5 points (-115)
The Florida Panthers have been all about newcomer Matthew Tkachuk this season. That’s been well-deserved, and we’ve loved him for coming through for our NHL player props picks several times. However, we’re going to target a lesser-known skater tonight. First and foremost, Bennett is on the top line with Tkachuk. Skating alongside a guy with 87 points (tied for 5th-most in the NHL) provides plenty of opportunities for Bennett. It also helps that the Panthers will be on home ice taking on the Montreal Canadiens tonight.
The Canadiens have allowed 12 goals across their last 2 games, and Florida is well-rested after having been off since last Saturday. Bennett has also proven he can take advantage of a weak Montreal squad. He’s recorded a point in 4 of his last 5 games against them, including 3 of those with multiple points. It’s also interesting to see that he’s recorded a point in every other game this month, which means you could say he’s “due” for one tonight. Regardless, this isn’t about a coincidental trend, but rather a skater with great history against his opponent and skating alongside an elite talent.

Joe Pavelski over 0.5 points (-140)
Our 2nd play comes in a matchup that may end up being the Western Conference Finals. The Dallas Stars have been atop the Central Division most of the season, while the Edmonton Oilers feature the greatest skater in the world with Connor McDavid. However, we’ve found much better value in a Stars skater. Dallas’ Jason Robertson is becoming one of the biggest young faces of the NHL, but we’re focused on his linemate. Joe Pavelski is quite the opposite in terms of experience and veteran leadership, which is part of this play. Of course, skating alongside a sniper in Robertson is also a large part of it as well.
Consider snagging Roope Hintz as well, but we’re getting more consistency here. Firstly, Pavelski has 61 points this season, with 43 of them being assists. He’s also recorded at least 1 assist in all but 3 of the Stars’ games this month. Now facing the Oilers, Pavelski should feel confident, even on the road. He’s recorded an assist in each of his last 4 games against McDavid and company, which includes both matchups this season. With all that in mind, this should be the price for his assist prop. However, we’re getting this for a point of any kind, which is incredibly better value. The Oilers have also allowed the 6th-most goals per game since February 1, so we expect Dallas to find the back of the net early and often, and with Pavelski involved.
