There may just be 5 games on the board tonight, but there’s no shortage of great action. That includes several skaters on new teams with a very active time in the NHL before the trade deadline. Timo Meier is now on the New Jersey Devils, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a new goaltender in Jonathan Quick and the Winnipeg Jets recently acquired Nino Niederreiter. All those teams are in action, so let’s see where our favorite prop picks take us. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Sebastian Aho over 0.5 assists (+130)
We’re sticking with a skater who certainly won’t be leaving at the trade deadline for our 1st play. The Carolina Hurricanes are surprisingly coming off back-to-back losses. However, the most recent was against the Vegas Golden Knights, who are the top dog in the Western Conference. Now Aho and the ‘Canes get to face one of the worst out west in the Arizona Coyotes. They’re coming off a loss in which they allowed 4 goals, and they allowed 6 goals in 2 of their 3 games prior to that one.
Therefore, it’s no surprise we’re expecting Carolina to bounce back in a big way. These teams don’t meet often, but there’s still encouraging history with Aho. Each of the last 2 times Aho visited Arizona, he recorded at least a point and 4 in total. He’s also tied for the team lead with 52 points through 51 games. While he can find the back of the net himself, he also skates alongside Andrei Svechnikov, who leads the team in shots. In fact, Aho is 4th in that regard. Even if he does notch a goal himself, we’d still expect him to record an assist along with it given the Coyotes’ poor defense.

Jack Hughes over 0.5 goals (+115)
The New Jersey Devils have been the surprise story of this NHL season and are coming off an incredible win. They took down the defending Stanley Cup-champion Avalanche in Colorado by a final score of 7-5 and held a 5-1 lead at one point. It remains to be seen how Timo Meier will fit in, but one would expect he’s only going to bolster an already-strong roster. Admittedly, he may end up taking away shots from Hughes, but the 21-year-old has simply been on fire this season.
The only thing more surprising than the Devils as a whole this season was the fact that Hughes didn’t get in the box score in that 7-5 win. However, he was underused after New Jersey jumped out to that 5-1 lead. He may not have the best matchup against the Golden Knights tonight, but with how the Devils just put it on the Avs, it’s clear that this team is virtually matchup-proof. Hughes did record 2 assists against Vegas at the end of January, but he’s still the primary shot-taker of the team. He may even want to impress the savvy-veteran Meier. He’s just 4 goals shy of a 40-goal season, and we’ll trust him to get 1 step closer tonight.
