I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Per usual, we have a smaller slate ahead of a loaded Saturday that includes early afternoon hockey. Not to worry; we’ve still analyzed the 4 matchups on the board to find the best spot to target in terms of the player prop market. We’re never going to force plays, but much like we often have a bonus play for large slates, we have just 1 play tonight. If you’re looking for an honorable mention, we also have a strong lean for Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators to go over his shots on goal prop. Either way, let’s dive into our official pick for tonight’s slate. Along with our player prop, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Leon Draisaitl over 1.5 points (+120)

We’ll have to wait for the nightcap to cash this play, but the Oilers should make it worth it. When it comes to Edmonton, the first name most fans would think of is Connor McDavid, and rightfully so. While we also expect him to hit this same prop, we’ve given that play out recently and want to provide you with just a bit of variety while also having value in the process. We’ll get a better return using his linemate in Leon Draisaitl. You’ll quickly see why this should certainly not be considered “settling” for the second fiddle. The Oilers are an embarrassment of riches in terms of offensive firepower. While McDavid leads the NHL in points, Draisaitl is just behind him with the 2nd-most at 57 through 36 games.

Edmonton is also out to look a bit more consistent than their first game back after the holiday weekend. They were able to sneak away with a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames, but are capable of so much more. Even after that win, they’re still averaging the 4th-most goals per game since the start of December. Meanwhile, the Kraken just allowed 3 goals in a loss to that same Flames team. They’re also allowing nearly 3.5 goals per game since December 1. While these teams haven’t faced yet this season, Draisaitl torched the Kraken last season. In 3 meetings, he had point totals of 4, 2 and 3. Again, McDavid may be the safer play, but with how much these 2 link up, they nearly always record points with one another. Expect them both to have a big game, but take the better value with Draisaitl.
