Show Bio

Like most Lithuanians, I started watching basketball from the age of six. I'm based out in London and played basketball at the University of Lincoln here in the UK. I had always had an interest in the NBA but things really took off in the summer of 2010. That year Linas Kleiza led Lithuania to 3rd place at the World Championships and signed with the Toronto Raptors to replace the departing Chris Bosh. I've been a Raptors fan since that day and I've not missed a game since. I've been handicapping games for more than a decade, specializing in player props. The NBA is back with a 4-game slate on Thursday. On NBATV you will be able to witness the clash between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks have gotten off to a fast start this year and have shown the type of form that got them to the Eastern Conference Finals a couple of years back. The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, are surprised to find themselves with a losing record at this stage of the season and will be looking to get back on track.

For now, let’s jump straight into my player prop selections.

Mason Plumlee Over 19.5 points + rebounds + assists (+100)

Mason Plumlee was able to record his 7th straight game of a combined 20 points, rebounds and assists on Wednesday, which was a prop winner for me. There is no reason to go away from the over on this one. He had his best scoring performance of the season last night, recording 16 points, and was able to top that up with 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Plumlee has a season high of 7 assists and if he can get anywhere close to that here, he would be perfectly set up to hit the over for an 8th straight game. The Heat are currently 15th in the league in opponent assists per game, so they should not hinder Plumlee too much.

Matchup-wise he will be up against Bam Adebayo, who is yet to hit a 3-pointer this season. His inability to space the floor allows his opponents to remain in prime rebounding position. Jusuf Nurkic and Domantas Sabonis took advantage of that to record 11 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Plumlee is of a similar build to those centers and should have similar success here. If he can keep close to his average of 8.8 points per game, he should hit this once more.

Joel Embiid Over 1.5 made threes (+145)

Joel Embiid will face one of his more physical matchups of the season as he takes on the Clint Capela and the Hawks. Atlanta’s center has the physical ability to really challenge Embiid in the low post, which could encourage the 76ers’ superstar to step out to the perimeter. He is currently averaging 1 make from the perimeter per game on 3.4 attempts. The presence of Capela should see those attempts soar tonight.

The Hawks should allow Embiid space from the outside. He is currently shooting 29.2%, which they will be happy to give up to him here. However, Embiid has shot better than 37% in each of the last 2 seasons, and he should be able to get back to that throughout this season — starting tonight. Last season he also shot at a 44.4% against the Hawks, too, so there are signs of encouragement for Embiid. Back him to knock down a couple of triples tonight.
