We are officially midway through the 2022-2023 NBA season! The scoring we’ve seen has been historic over the last few weeks and while it’s been wildly entertaining, I question if it will be sustainable. This is the weird lull in the season for many players, as we are post-Christmas and pre-all-star weekend. Teams are preparing themselves for the trade deadline and must decide on their season: Will they be buyers or sellers in the market? I’m excited to see if any trades can tip the scales of the elite in both conferences, but this has been one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory.

Let’s look at tonight’s player props!

Kelly Olynyk (UTA) Over 18.5 PRA (-115)

Line available on BetMGM at the time of publishing.

The Bulls are coming off of a back-to-back and their rotations really favor what Olynyk can offer. He’s a stretch 5 with the ability to knockdown open shots and switch onto smaller forwards when needed. The Bulls run heavy 3-4 guard rotations where Vucevic is often the only real post presence on the floor. If we look back at the Jazz/Bulls matchup in late November, Olynyk had one of his best games of the season. He played 33min and finished with 23 points 4 assists and 3 rebounds on 5/10 shooting from deep. While I do not expect the same type of performance, I do see Olynyk finding his way on the floor for that 29-32 min range tonight. His spacing should draw Vucevic out of the paint and give Clarkson/Markannen better chances to attack the rim. He’s hit this line in 14/17 games where he sees 30+min of playing time. Catching Chicago on the back-to-back should give Olynyk an extra boost in all 3 statistical columns. 1U.

Jayson Tatum (BOS) Over 11.5 rebounds + assists (-131)

Line available on Caesars Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

The last time the Celtics overlooked an inferior opponent they were beaten by 33 points to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since that loss is still so fresh in their minds, I do not see them coming into this game against the Spurs in similar fashion. The Spurs are coming off of a double-digit win last night against the Detroit Pistons, so this one may be more competitive than the 13.5-point spread would indicate. The Spurs are allowing the 2nd-most APG to opposing PFs over the L7 and Tatum’s rebounding has been one of his best attributes this season for Celtics. He’s averaging 8.3 per game on the road and has hit this line in 10 of 15 double-digit wins this season and 12/19 road games. 1U.

De’Aaron Fox (SAC) Over 25.5 points (-119)

Line available on Caesars Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

All Star fan voting came out this week and you know who was left off the top 10 guards in the Western Conference? You guessed it, Swipa the Fox. Since the release, Fox has yet to play and I have to think that overlook is not sitting well with him. The Lakers are coming off home win last night to the Atlanta Hawks where Trae Young went off for 32. Fox has had a lot of success against the Lakers, averaging 27 ppg over the last 6. He’s averaging 20 FGA per game over the last 5. The key to Fox hitting this mark will be his ability to get to the free-throw line. He’s had 7+ FTA in the last 2 games, but the magic number is 5. When he gets 5+ FTA, he hits this line 60% of the time. The Lakers are allowing the 6th-most points in the paint per game over the last 3, so Fox should have the green light to attack at will. 1U.

Wendell Carter (ORL) Over 14.5 points (-111)

Line available on BetMGM at the time of publishing.

Carter has seen 30+min in back-to-back games since returning from his one game suspension. He’s hit this line in 4 of the L5 and gets a Warriors team that is giving up the 4th-most points in the paint of the L3 games. Carter has shot over 44% from the field in every contest since returning from injury just before Christmas and should excel against the Warriors frontcourt, as they rank 24th overall in opponents’ shooting efficiency at the rim. They are also #1 overall in pace, adding a few more opportunities than normal for the sluggish Magic. Of the 11 games that Carter has hit this line this season, 6 were against team top 10 in pace. 1.5U.
