Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the NBA is a proud day in the sport as they celebrate his legacy and offer a full slate of games starting at 1:00pm ET. Today’s slate is 9 games, with 4 being nationally televised. There are quite a few quality matchups today, including Toronto Raptors vs New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks in their first meeting on the season, and Miami Heat vs Atlanta Hawks. Let’s look at my favorite player props of the day.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks) over 31.5 points (-115)

Giannis Antetokounmpo has missed 2 straight games after his season-low 7-point performance on January 11. He comes into this game well rested to take on the Indiana Pacers at home. The Greek Freak should benefit greatly from the time off, as he averages 37 points per game when getting more than 3 days’ rest. At home, he has hit this line in 11/17 and averages 33.9 points per game on the season.
The Pacers are a team in flux without Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner is questionable for tonight’s game. Over the last 3 games without Turner, the Pacers are allowing 54 ppg in the paint (tied for 24th-worst in that span). Last season, Giannis dropped a season-high 50 points against the Pacers at home and I like to him have another big game today in his return. 1.5U

Jonas Valanciunas (Pelicans) under 0.5 threes made (-130)

The Pelicans are on the road against the Cavaliers today in their first matchup of the season. Jonas Valanciunas has made a three-pointer in 2 straight games, but previous to that it was a 4-game donut in the 3 column for the Lithuanian. He has hit this line in only 15/43 (34%) games this season and many of those came when he was paired with Zion Williamson on the floor, allowing Jonas to move to the perimeter and clear space. Against the Cavaliers, he has a tough matchup if he wants to stretch the floor. Both Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley have the athleticism to close out his shots on the perimeter. He made only 1/5 threes against this Cavs team last season and I struggle to believe he will have many opportunities tonight that are open looks. 1U
Alperen Sengun (Rockets) over 29.5 points, rebounds and assists (-113)

Alperen Sengun has been garnering loads of respect within NBA circles and Anthony Edwards recently went on record stating the Rockets should build around him instead of Jalen Green or Kevin Porter Jr. While that may be a bit of an overreaction, Sengun has been a consistent starter in the NBA over the last few weeks. He’s averaging 15P-8R-5A in January and he has flirted with this mark in 3 straight games. The Lakers are giving up the 3rd-most points in the paint per game over the last 3 and nearly 60ppg in the paint at home for the season. In the rebounding column, the Lakers are getting dominated on the glass lately, which is probably why they are trying out Demarcus Cousins and Meyers Leonard for a roster spot. As for passing, the Lakers are ranked 25th in opponent assists per game. Sengun is averaging 16 potential chances and 9 potential assists per game in January, behind only Jokic and Sabonis at the center position. More importantly, Sengun’s minutes are up, averaging a season-high 28mpg in January. 0.5U
