The two best words in sports; Game 7. The Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers with the winner facing off against the #8 seed Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game 6 featured Jayson Tatum missing every shot he took in the first 3 quarters and then playing brilliantly in the fourth quarter. He carried the Celtics to a win and will be locked in at home. The NBA world is waiting for a Joel Embiid legacy game. The MVP showed out in Game 5 with 33 points, but it was a team effort with young guard Tyrese Maxey also dropping 30 points. Embiid has yet to get past the second round of the playoffs in his career and many are wondering when he’ll get over the hump. He has the perfect opportunity to prove the doubters wrong on Sunday afternoon.
Embiid scored 26 points in Game 6 but took only 1 field-goal attempt in the final 6 minutes. He and Maxey were playing off each other but Embiid could not get the ball. With Jayson Tatum having his postseason moment in the final minutes of Game 6, Embiid will be sure to lead the volume for the 76ers. Embiid is averaging 20 field-goal attempts but more importantly, he is getting to the free-throw line. He has converted 48 of his 54 free-throw attempts and should have his way against Al Horford or Robert Williams.
Many times during the postseason, it’s tough to find a prop line that had a hit rate of over even 50% during the regular season. Embiid led the league in scoring during the regular season and crushed this number at a 60% clip. Game 7s tends to be slow-paced, especially with great defenses like these, but I’ll gladly back the MVP of the league in the biggest game of his career.
