Spurs vs Cavaliers first basket best bet: Donovan Mitchell (+340)
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been dominating tips of late, winning 7 in their last 10 games. Jarrett Allen is the man responsible for this, and the Cavaliers center will have a chance of extending his streak against the San Antonio Spurs. He will be up against Zach Collins, who is just over 6’9″. The Spurs have won just 2 tips over their last 10 games. With Collins being undersized, he should provide a lack of rim protection too. That should suit a guard like Donovan Mitchell, who can beat his opponent and get into the paint. He has made the first field goal in 3 of his last 7 starts. Do not expect a Spurs team ranked 27th in defensive rating over the last 10 games to be able to stop him.

Pelicans vs Thunder first basket best bet: Jonas Valanciunas (+500)
Kenrich Williams was the man jumping at the tip for the Oklahoma City Thunder in their last outing. If he is the one to do so again, it should be an easy win for a man the size of Jonas Valanciunas. Over the last 10 games, the Pelicans have won the tip 8 times, as opposed to just 3 for the Thunder. The Lithuanian’s size advantage should translate inside the paint too. Last season he dominated against the undersized Thunder team. While he has had issues replicating that this season so far, do not be surprised to see him featured early to try and help him get back to those ways. The Thunder also rank 29th in opponent offensive rebounds per game this season, giving Valanciunas another avenue of potentially scoring the game’s first bucket.

Nuggets vs Heat first basket best bet: Caleb Martin (+950)
While Nikola Jokic does not lack size, he is hardly the most athletic center. It should give Bam Adebayo a great chance of winning the tip tonight. Even if he does not, the Heat are 3rd in defensive rating over the last 10 games and would have a great chance of getting a stop. The Heat have scored the first field goal in 4 of their last 10 games, and Caleb Martin has been responsible for 3 of those. He will likely be picked up by Michael Porter Jr., here who is yet to establish himself as a good NBA defender. With Martin’s ability to cut to the rim, do not be surprised to see him catch out the Nuggets forward early.
