Vince Velasquez (PIT) Over 15.5 Outs (-119)
Line available at Caesars at time of publishing.
Vince Velasquez is at his best right now, so it’s the perfect time to back the 9-year veteran. The Pirates are his 4th team in the last 3 years, but it seems to be home for the veteran right-hander. He’s actually pitched 6 complete innings in each of his last 2 starts, including only allowing 3 runs at Coors Field.
The Cincinnati Reds will have 6 righties in their lineup which is right up Velasquez’s alley. He’s surrendering a .222 batting average to right-handed batters compared to .281 to left-handed batters. The Reds have allowed both of the Pirates right-handed starters to go 6+ innings and mustered only 3 runs in the first 2 games of the series. Look for Velasquez to continue his stride and complete the sweep at home.

Reid Detmers (LAA) Under 2.5 Earned runs (-125)
Line available at DraftKings at time of publishing.
We faded Reid Detmers last Sunday as our featured MLB player prop bet and he showed out. Today, we’re backing the southpaw. Detmers has the potential to be one of the brightest arms in the game. The lefty has faced off against some loaded offenses to start the season and now gets his best matchup against the Kansas City Royals.
Detmers gave up a 2-run shot to Justin Turner in his last start and that was the only damage given up. He struck out 7 batters and pitched into the 7th inning at Fenway Park. He’ll be back at home where he was sensational last season. In 13 starts, he allowed fewer than 3 earned runs in 11 of them.
The Royals got to him last season but most of the work came against batters who aren’t on the team anymore. Kansas City is hitting an 11th-worst .230 against left-handed pitching with a top 11 K rate. Expect Detmers to eat up a pitch count with his strikeouts and coast to a win.
