Cristian Javier hasn’t been himself this season after a career-best campaign that ended with a World Series ring. In his last start, he allowed 4 earned runs to an underwhelming Pittsburgh Pirates offense. Javier is more than capable of bouncing back tonight at home. Last season, behind the Astros faithful, he had a 2.26 ERA and allowed less than 3 runs in 9 of 11 games where he threw more than 50 pitches.
The Toronto Blue Jays offense is lethal, but we’re getting a great number on a top-15 arm in the American League. This will be the biggest test for the Blue Jays hitters in terms of a right-handed arm. They mashed against arms like Jordan Lyles, Miles Mikolas, and Drew Rasmussen who at the time were having stellar seasons. The Blue Jays are expected to start 6 right-handed bats which Javier has always been better against. In his first 3 seasons in the majors, he held righties to a batting average below .160.
This has the making of a phenomenal pitching duel by both teams with Kevin Gausman on the mound for Toronto. Expect a strong bounce-back performance from not only Javier but the Astros after a 9-1 loss to the Texas Rangers last night.
