Atlanta Hawks ML over San Antonio Spurs (+166)

Neither team has been in good form lately – Atlanta just ended an 8-game losing streak with a win at Detroit, while the Spurs have only 1 win in their last 5 games. So why go with Atlanta here? Well, they are playing at home, where they are still a respectable 11-11 on the season. Plus, having lost the first meeting of the season in OT, they have an extra incentive to get one back over the Spurs here.

San Antonio just acquired De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings and inserting a new point guard into the roster could cause some chemistry issues for the Hawks to take advantage of. Atlanta swept the regular-season series last year, winning their home game by 10 points. They’ve won back-to-back meetings at State Farm Arena, and until I see Fox settle in with the Spurs, I am not touching them. I think we’re getting great value on Atlanta as a home underdog here.

Trae Young to record 12+ assists (+125)

Trae Young has been on a mission to prove everyone wrong regarding his absence from the All-Star team this month in San Francisco. The NBA’s leading assist man is averaging 11.5 per game, and only one other player in the entire league is at double-figures on a nightly basis. We just saw Young go for 34 points in back-to-back games against Indiana and Detroit, but we all know the Hawks flourish the most when Young distributes the ball.

San Antonio isn’t exactly known for stopping the opponents’ ball movement – over the last 3 games teams have averaged 29 assists per game against them, while for the season they are only 18th in opponent assists per game. On top of learning the new offense, Fox also has to deal with guarding Young here, and I don’t think he ‘ll be able to handle a motivated Trae who is out to show everyone he is deserving of an All-Star spot.

Victor Wembanyama to score 20+ points (-330)

Getting a player like Fox right before the trade deadline will do wonders for the confidence of Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs’ leading scorer is averaging 24.6 points per game this season, which makes him a top-15 scorer in the NBA. This bet has cashed in 6 straight outings and it looks like Wemby’s mid-January slump is behind him as he continues to dominate opponents on a nightly basis.

Atlanta didn’t stand a chance against Wembanyama in that first meeting back in mid-December as he dropped 42 points, including 7 threes in just 37 minutes of play. More of the same is expected on Wednesday night, as the Hawks have really struggled to contain opponents down low – their last 3 games have seen them surrender an average of 64.7 points per game from the painted area.
