Phoenix Suns vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 01/20/25

Facing the 35-6 Cavaliers couldn’t come at a better time for the Phoenix Suns, who are slowly starting to turn things around. With 5 wins in their last 6 games, the Suns are showing signs of life, but against the dominant Cavs, they should have all they can handle. The question they have to ask themselves before this game is whether they can keep up with the three-point shooting of the Cavs. Phoenix made only 7 threes in the win over Detroit the other day which is not going to cut it against the best team in the East. Percentage-wise, the Suns are right up there with the Cavs, knocking down 37.6% of their triples for the season, including 38.9% in road games, which leads the league. Jusuf Nurkic is out injured which will allow the Suns to play at a faster tempo, and that’s the only way they stand a chance against Cleveland on Monday.

The Cavaliers’ form has been up and down a bit over the past 5 games, with them going just 3-2 during that stretch. I say “just” only because this is a rare sighting for a team that’s lost back-to-back games only once this year. Head coach Kenny Atkinson faces a couple of injury concerns with Isaac Okoro and Evan Mobley out for this one, and not having Mobley really hurts them as they lose a valuable body on defense which they could have thrown at Kevin Durant. The Cavs haven’t had the best of luck against Phoenix in recent meetings, winning just 2 of the last 9, but all of those games happened before the Cavs became a force this season.

This is a massive character test for the Suns. Not a lot of people expect them to get a result here and that’s exactly what their calling card should be. KD and Devin Booker are playing really well in January and I would argue that 2 of the 3 best players in this game are on the visitors’ roster. I’ll give the Suns the benefit of the doubt here and back them to continue their solid streak.
