The Philadelphia 76ers begin a 3-game, West Coast road trip on Monday night when they head to Phoenix to take on the Suns. It’s been an awfully slow start for the Sixers, who enter Monday’s contest with just 1 win through their first 5 games, though they haven’t been healthy with Joel Embiid and Paul George sidelined with injuries to begin the season. There is some good news for Philadelphia, as George is slated to make his 76ers’ debut after dealing with a left knee injury. Embiid however, will miss Monday’s contest as he manages a left knee injury. The situation is much brighter in Phoenix, with the Suns entering this contest at 5-1 and in the middle of a 4-game win streak. Their big 3, consisting of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, have played well alongside one another, and the addition of Tyus Jones appears to have been a great offseason move.

The Suns are 7-point favorites in this matchup, and while that may appear high on the surface, I think it’s wise to lay the points with the home team. Phoenix has the 8th highest net rating in the NBA, whereas the 76ers rank 2nd to last and have struggled to find consistency on the offensive end without Embiid and George. Tyrese Maxey has led the way for Philadelphia, averaging 29.8 PPG, but they’ve had to rely heavily on role players, and it’s not translated into a winning formula. Having George on the floor tonight should help the Sixers fill in some gaps in scoring, but it’s unknown how many minutes he’ll be out there or if there will be an adjustment period with his newfound team. The Suns have a good thing going, while the 76ers are still searching for answers amid numerous injuries. I’m playing it safe and backing the favorite at home.
