Timberwolves vs Cavaliers Pickswise Expert Predictions
For the first time this month the Minnesota Timberwolves are headed out for a road game, as they take on the best team in the East the Cleveland Cavaliers. Following back-to-back 40+ point games, Anthony Edwards took the night off against Portland; the team still delivered an impressive win even without him. His status is up in the air as he recovers from a hip issue, so there is a chance he joins Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo on the sidelines. Without his 27.2 points per game, Minnesota could struggle to keep up with the high-scoring Cavs. Cleveland won the regular-season series opener 124-117 back in mid-January at the Target Center.
Apart from a couple of role players dealing with minor knocks, the Cavaliers are pretty much at full strength and are currently on a roll — having won 6 of 7 games. At home they are 14-3 SU in their last 17, while against Western Conference opponents they have lost only 3 times in their last 18 outings. As we get close to the all-star weekend, it’s important for the Cavs to keep their foot on the gas pedal since even a minor losing streak could result in the Boston Celtics coming within a couple of games of the #1 seed in the East. We have seen some improvements by Cleveland defensively; their last 3 opponents are shooting just 34.9% from 3 compared to their season average of 36.5%.
Minnesota has been solid on the road going 15-11 ATS/SU, but it is playing a Cavs team that has been one of the most consistent home teams in the NBA at 24-4 SU and 18-10 ATS. Potentially being without their best player, I don’t think the Timberwolves will be able to keep this game close. Back the Cavs at home.
