The Miami Heat are in panic mode with their team losing 7 games in a row, they’re now just 1 game ahead of the Bulls in the East standings, clinging on to that 9th seed which gives them home court in the first play-in tournament game. Things have gone downhill ever since the Jimmy Butler trade, which is kind of ironic, the Heat have recorded back-to-back wins only once post trade deadline. Monday’s game vs the Knicks in New York will be another tough game, New York won both meetings so far this season and 6 of the last 7 meetings at MSG. Miami’s injury situation is slightly better than the Knicks one, that is the only bright spot ahead of this game for them.
Jalen Brunson’s return has been pushed further back, which means the Knicks star will likely miss the remainder of March as he recovers from his ankle injury. That is a devastating blow for the Knicks, especially on the offensive end where they’ve struggled to find points ever since the injury occurred. Since then they’ve scored less than 100 points twice, bench play is a massive concern with just 4 points coming from Mitchell Robinson and Landry Shamet in Saturday’s loss at Golden State. New York is only 3-10 ATS over their last 13 games, they’ve failed to cover in 7 straight at home and in 6 in a row vs Eastern Conference opponents.
It’s been a struggle for both teams lately, but all the pressure is on Miami in this game. The Knicks are pretty much set to finish 3rd in the East, so they can afford to relax a bit. If the Heat don’t get something going soon, they are in danger of dropping further in the standings. I’ll give Miami the benefit of the doubt here and back them to cover on the road.
