Houston Rockets vs Memphis Grizzlies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Thursday, 01/09/25

After a swift win over Dallas the other night, Memphis hopes to win a 2nd game a in a row as they host the Houston Rockets. The first meeting didn’t go well for the Grizzlies who lost by 20 back in October in what was the 2nd game of the season for both teams. A lot has changed since, now we have a better grasp of what type of style each team plays. Memphis has been dominant at home, winning 15 of 19 games so far, including 10 of their last 11. Desmond Bane should return to the line-up after missing that Dallas game, the 3rd leading scorer for Memphis this season has had 22 or more points in 4 straight.

Houston has bounced back well from that ugly 109-86 defeat against Boston. First they beat the Lakers in a thriller at home and then they went to Washington and got a 135-112 win. Jalen Green has been the story lately scoring 24+ in 4 of his last 7, he will be the focal point of the offense tonight as well. One concern I have here is the status of Fred VanVleet who limped off the court with 3 minutes left vs Washington after bumping knees with an opponent. If the veteran point guard isn’t able to play, that will be a huge handicap for the young Rockets.

In games between such evenly matched opponents it’s usually the home team that has the edge and that’s where exactly I’m leaning towards here. Memphis should have all of its top guns ready here, it’s time for them to make a statement here and show who really is the 2nd best team in the West. I’m backing Morant and co. to win.
