Cavaliers vs Grizzlies Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in midst of their third double-digit winning streak of the season — exuding dominance that has rarely been seen since the turn of the century. With that type of form they have all but wrapped up the #1 seed in the East, and they are showing no signs of slowing down going into a road date with the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. During the streak, only the OKC Thunder have posted a superior offensive rating — while on defense the Cavs rank third in efficiency behind the Pistons and Warriors. The only reason why someone would not back the Cavs here is the injury to Donovan Mitchell, who is set to miss this one as he recovers from a groin issue.
Memphis also has injury concerns going into this game — most notably, Jaren Jackson Jr. is questionable. He has missed the last 5 with an ankle sprain. Without him, though, the Grizzlies have caught fire by winning 4 straight games. However, the teams they beat were Dallas, New Orleans, Phoenix and Utah — not exactly the crème de la crème of the Western Conference. This team did cause problems for the Cavs when the 2 teams met earlier in the year, losing only by 6 points on the road. Playing at a high tempo and scoring a lot of points is the style of play in which this team flourishes most, so it will be interesting to see if the Grizz can make life difficult for the Cavaliers.
Both teams could potentially be without their leading scorers, so it’s natural to assume that will have a negative impact on the scoring numbers. The projected total of 244.5 points hasn’t been cleared in the last 4 games by each side, while the last 7 of 9 meetings have all stayed under the total. This line is just too high considering the state in which the 2 teams are in. I’m taking the under.
