Syracuse Orange vs UNLV Rebels Prediction, Odds and Picks for Friday, 10/04/24

Despite an ongoing saga regarding NIL drama, the UNLV Rebels put a whooping on Fresno State last week. This time around, a significantly more talented opponent comes to town in the Syracuse Orange. The Rebels have yet to face an offense — or defense, for that matter — of Syracuse’s caliber. No team UNLV has faced ranks above 68th in total offense among FBS schools, with one of their opponents (Houston) ranking 124th. Syracuse puts up a solid 475.2 yards per game on offense (18th in FBS) and has a quality QB in Kyle McCord under center, who has already shown he can sling it, ranking 4th in passing TDs this season.

The Rebels have relied on the run game all year and likely will again in this matchup with this being Hajj-Malik Williams’ second start for UNLV. Syracuse has an average defense but has been able to create pressure and disrupt the line of scrimmage, ranking 37th in tackles for loss. I have faith in McCord and the ‘Cuse offense to keep this one within a touchdown, especially as the passing game should find success against UNLV’s 88th ranked secondary in terms of passing yards allowed per game. With all things considered, I’m taking Syracuse to cover.
