Washington State vs Oregon State Pickswise Expert Predictions
Both teams enter this matchup in need of a bounce-back win. Washington State has dropped four straight, including a tough loss to Pacific that they’d love to forget. Meanwhile, Oregon State is looking to recover after a humbling 38-point defeat against Gonzaga. For the Cougars, breaking down the defense will be the key. They’ve shown an ability to handle pressure (ranking in the 88th percentile in press offense) and have the perimeter shooting to attack the zone. Nate Calmese leads a backcourt featuring multiple shooters hitting over 37% from deep. However, Washington State’s reliance on post play has led to mixed results against zone defenses, and their efficiency drops significantly in those scenarios.
Defensively, the Cougars match up well against Oregon State’s interior-heavy approach. The Beavers run much of their offense through Michael Rataj and Parsa Fallah in the post, but Washington State has the size to contest them effectively. However, Oregon State’s ability to take care of the ball and their dominant ATS record at home (13-1) make them an appealing pick. The line has shifted in Washington State’s favor, but Oregon State has consistently covered at home and as a favorite (12-3 ATS). Given the Cougars’ defensive struggles (296th in opponent PPG) and Oregon State’s home-court advantage, I’m siding with the Beavers to cover.
