Neither of these teams is very good, and both are trying to find their way out of the cellar of the ACC standings. Both teams are off to 1-3 starts, with Syracuse holding a win over Georgia Tech and BC holding a win over last-place Miami. Boston College gets home court in this one, and I typically don’t like to fool around with road teams in major conferences, but I think this is a spot where the road team takes the win. My Syracuse vs Boston College pick is Syracuse +1 (and you might as well take the point, because there is no substantial difference on the money line).

Both of these teams lie outside the top 100 in both the KenPom and Torvik rankings. Per KenPom, Syracuse is #125 and BC is #188, while Torvik has Syracuse at 147th and BC at 198th. Yikes. We can at least conclude that Syracuse grades out as the better overall team, although that doesn’t say much here. My issue with Boston College is the youth of this team. After losing 90% of its scoring from last season, including its top 4 scorers, this team is very freshman-dependent, and that makes me nervous. They have yet to demonstrate that they can compete in conference play, as their only win is against a Miami team in total disarray. Syracuse has a little bit of life, and I think it is good enough to win. Let’s take the +1 to be safe.
