Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Alabama Crimson Tide Prediction, Odds and Picks for Tuesday, 02/25/25

The game of the night in the SEC on Tuesday takes place in Tuscaloosa, as the Alabama Crimson Tide are set to host the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a clash of ranked teams. From a situational spot perspective, Mississippi State would appear to be the side, especially since Alabama is coming off an offensive outburst against Kentucky while the Bulldogs just surrendered 93 points in a loss to Oklahoma over the weekend. However, I’m skeptical of Mississippi State’s chances to keep this one close because of how the Bulldogs have fared when stepping up in class this season.

Outside of a recent win at home against a Texas A&M team that shot 35% from the field in that game, the Bulldogs have lost by double digits to the likes of Florida, Missouri, Tennessee and Auburn during conference play. In the first meeting between these teams in Starkville, the Crimson Tide missed 9 free-throws and committed 15 turnovers, yet were still able to put up 88 points and win on the road. Now, in front of what should be another raucous home crowd, Nate Oats’ team should get a ton of great looks from beyond the arc against a Mississippi State defense that is 298th in opponent 3-point percentage and 310th in 3-point rate allowed. If a few threes start falling early on for the hosts, the Alabama avalanche could sweep up the Bulldogs and lead to a potential blowout. The biggest issue for the Crimson Tide is their propensity to turn the ball over, but that shouldn’t be too much of a factor in this game since Mississippi State is just 170th in turnovers forced per game on defense since February 1. While the Bulldogs have won 3 of their last 4 road games, this Alabama team is a much different step up in class from the likes of Georgia, Oklahoma, or South Carolina. I’ll take the Tide to roll through an overmatched opponent at home.
