Michigan Wolverines vs Virginia Tech Hokies Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 11/25/24
Michigan vs Virginia Tech Pickswise Expert Predictions
It is Feast Week, and we are turning our attention to the Fort Myers Tip-Off on Monday for our Michigan vs Virginia Tech prediction. This tournament has 2 brackets, 4 teams each, with Xavier and South Carolina joining the Wolverines and Hokies. The Wolverines are off to a 4-1 start under first-year head coach Dusty May. Their lone loss came at Wake Forest by 2 points. Virginia Tech is 3-2, having dropped consecutive games to Penn State and Jacksonville. The Wolverines are 10.5-point favorites, and I think that is a great play in this matchup. My Michigan vs Virginia Tech pick is for the Wolverines to cover.
Michigan began the season with a lot of unknowns — a new coach, 9 new players and a lot of question marks about how quickly things might turn around. But the Wolverines have been good so far, ranking inside KenPom’s top 40 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Dusty May is just one of those guys that is going to find success wherever he goes. As for the Hokies, things are very different. They lost 7 of their top 8 scorers from last season, and the top player they brought in to lead the team was dismissed from the team amid federal investigation for point shaving at his previous school. The Hokies were already picked to finish near the bottom of the ACC, and they have struggled mightily, especially on offense (171st on offense, per KenPom). Until I see evidence to the contrary, Virginia Tech is going to be one of those teams that I fade regularly, and even better on a night they play a team that hasn’t fully overcome last season’s perception. Give me the Wolverines to win comfortably.
