Howard Bison vs Kansas Jayhawks Prediction, Odds and Picks for Monday, 11/04/24
Howard vs Kansas Pickswise Expert Predictions
After a long and eventful offseason, the college basketball season is back and will tip off in earnest on Monday. As is the case in most seasons, the Kansas Jayhawks are the preseason favorites in the Big 12, albeit with some serious competition nipping at their heels. Bill Self’s team is coming off a season in which they were blown out by Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and the Jayhawks reloaded with a roster that boasts the talent and experience necessary to perform at the highest level in March. Hunter Dickinson, K.J. Adams and Dajuan Harris are the holdovers in the starting lineup from a season ago, while transfer guard AJ Storr brings some much-needed scoring and shot creation to the wing. In this era of the transfer portal turning teams upside down on a season-to-season basis, it’s certainly a positive for the Jayhawks that this team has a lot of veteran continuity at the top of the roster. Kansas boasts one of the best starting lineups in the nation — if not the best — and the Jayhawks should use this season opener as a way for the team to get acclimated to game speed while still focusing on improving on last year’s squad.
On the other side, Howard is rated outside of the top 200 in KenPom, which is still good for one of the better marks in the MEAC. The Bison are the favorites in the league and are coming off back-to-back campaigns where they went to the NCAA Tournament following a conference championship. Senior guard Bryce Harris is the preseason player of the year in the conference, but he’ll have his hands full on Monday against a Kansas defense that projects to be a top 10 unit in adjusted efficiency this season. Howard isn’t going to have answers for the Jayhawks in transition either, so look for the Kansas offense to push the tempo early and often, which should lead to plenty of easy looks. I’m not too concerned about Howard covering this number in garbage time, as the Jayhawks bench is full of players who are fighting for consistent minutes in the rotation going forward and should put forth a good effort at home. Let’s take Kansas to win this one in a rout.
