The Friday night college basketball slate is always an interesting hunt for good betting spots, with very few teams in action, and usually from smaller conferences. Tonight, we head to the Atlantic 10 for 2 of their better squads in the Dayton Flyers and the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers. These teams faced each other a month ago at Dayton, a game that the Flyers survived 83-81 in overtime. It is noteworthy that this was an overtime game, because the game was under the point total of 140 at the end of regulation — which is something to keep in mind as we bet the rematch. The metrics like this Dayton team far better, as they register at 78 in the KenPom ratings, while the Ramblers check in at 123. The Ramblers have been solid lately though, and they are especially tough at home — where they have only lost once all season. That loss was to VCU, and for the most part the top half of the league has yet to make the trip to Chicago. I think Dayton is likely the best team Loyola faced at home aside from VCU, and despite the close first matchup, I think Dayton should be the better team. The caution here is that Dayton plays very slowly. The Flyers are an efficient offense, but they control the pace of play, and that makes it hard to pull away from opponents. As for the Ramblers, they are a very average team in most ways. They don’t do anything especially well, nor do they do anything especially poorly. I expect the Dayton defense to perform well, and I think the offense will correct from a poor shooting performance in the first matchup. Look for the Flyers to play a slow game, get to the foul line often and win this game by a couple of possessions.
