Charlotte vs North Texas Pickswise Expert Predictions
As we wind down the final week of the regular season, we turn to a possible tournament team in North Texas. Our Charlotte 49ers vs North Texas Mean Green prediction is Charlotte +14.5 in what is a really large number for a game between two of the slowest teams in the country. With a game total set at 125, no one is expecting an offensive explosion in this one, and I think this is a spot where North Texas is in clear control of the game, but they probably win by something closer to 10. Sure, this isn’t a sexy pick, but I am playing the win-no-cover in this spot and backing the visitors, despite being one of the worst teams in the country.
Charlotte is bad. Like, well outside of the top 250 kind of bad. These teams have not met yet this season, but the 49ers sit in last place in the AAC with only three conference wins. They have been reasonably competitive though, so this isn’t a situation where they have quit on the season. North Texas sits only a game behind Memphis in the conference standings, yet given the overall weakness of the AAC, they still likely need to win the conference tournament to make the big tournament. Make no mistake, the Mean Green will win this game, but a couple of factors make me think it stays under the spread. First, North Texas has only won 2 conference games by this much of a margin. They just aren’t built to blow people away, given their defensive style and slow pace of play. Second, Charlotte also plays with a deliberate pace, and about the only thing they do well is take care of the ball on offense, avoiding turnovers. Charlotte also does not give up a lot of 3-pointers, which isn’t a reason to think they can win, but it might be enough to keep them from getting blown out. Surely Vegas wants us to back the home favorite here; let’s go the other way.
Charlotte vs North Texas Prediction: Charlotte +14.5 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
