BYU Cougars vs TCU Horned Frogs Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 01/11/25

BYU looks to rebound from back-to-back losses as it gets ready to face TCU on Saturday afternoon. Both of these teams have recently lost to their Big 12 rival, the Houston Cougars, which shouldn’t come as a surprise as Houston is one of the best teams in all of college basketball. Despite their recent losses, there’s still a lot of basketball left this season and plenty of opportunities for both teams to move up in the Big 12 standings. Today, both teams will be looking to make a statement and pick up a much needed win — and I think BYU has the upper hand.

The Cougars are averaging 81.4 points per game this season and are only giving up 66.1 points per game, but they’ve struggled against decent competition this year. BYU losses have come from Houston, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Providence.  As for TCU, they’re averaging 70.5 points per game and giving up 65.6 points per game. In BYU’s last game against Texas Tech, they shot 43.9% from the field, but they struggled from deep going 5-23 (21.7%). The Cougars will need to shoot better from deep against TCU, and it won’t be easy as opponents only shoot 28.5% from deep against TCU this season. As for the Frogs, they shot 42.6% against Houston, but also struggled from deep, going 3-for-18 from deep and turned the ball over 14 times — which is something they can’t afford to do against BYU. TCU turns it over on average 11.4 times per game, and BYU forces 13.1 turnovers on average per game. Both teams have been decent defensively this season, but TCU has a subpar offensively in my opinion and they can’t be trusted in this game. BYU boasts a slightly better defense, more depth, and a slightly better offense in this game to get it done; that’s why BYU is my best bet of the day.
